In this case, it might be best if the parents/wrestlers don't know how big the brackets are till they get there. Also, posting the brackets could lend itself to another club trying to steal what is likely a very profitable tourney. Oh wait, NM!

Wondering if anyone had a clue on how to rate their wrestler if he/she was not definitely at the bottom (1) or at the top (10). Maybe go by record? Also wondered why the 1-10 rating was used instead of regular A B C D.Any input would be appreciated!

See if this works for you 10=A+, 9=A, 8=A-, 7=B+, 6=B, 5=B-, 4=C+, 3=C, 2=C-, 1=D. Don't know for sure but that is how we handled it.

I would tend to agree that this must be a profitable tournament. My son went 2 years and had 64 man brackets both years. I will say that they spare no expense when it comes to the plaques. They are VERY nice. I recommend it to all our 6 & u's.

Just curious, how many wrestlers (on average) are in each weight class. Also, is it double elimination or how is it set up?

From attending last year, the popular weight classes had 64 man brackets. Some of the higher weight kids had 8/16 man brackets. My son wrestled last year in a 64 man bracket at the weight of 46lbs. They place up to 6th place from what I remember. It is a great tourn. with a lot of 6 and under kids. Also plan for a long day.

Yes, double elimination. They wrestle for top six places. They probably use 1-10 instead of A-D due to the number of entries. It would help them seed the entries more accurately.

So a kid can lose a match and still end up winning 1st if they come through the losers bracket?

I don't see it that way....they go to the left side of the bracket & the best they can do is 3rd after coming through the back side.

You want to always stay to the right....heading to the Championship round.....which you will then wrestle for 1st or 2nd.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks

no, unless they make it to the finals and lose, they finish second, otherwise when they lose they can finish third at best.

You are correct in saying that, but I have always known true double elimination to mean just that. You must be beaten twice to be put out. So it if the left side comes back and beats the right side twice they could win.

I have been confused all year by brackets saying they are double elimination yet the best they can get is third.

they are double elimination. they aren't winner take all. the difference is that the third place finisher finishes third. they don't get eliminated. if that makes any sense.

When they lose a match before the finals round, they go to the left. Once they are on the left side of the bracket, they will not wrestle anyone on the right side. Therefore, they can do no better than 3rd.

In my opinion, when you have large brackets such as these and place top 6 instead of top 4, there should be a challenge for 2nd from the backside for the 3rd place finisher provided the person who took 2nd didn't beat the 3rd place finisher to the backside of the bracket. In a sense, the champion of the bracket will have no losses, but the 2nd and 3rd place finishers will each have one loss, so 2 kids will have the same number of losses in the same bracket and both losses come from the same kid (possibly) so a challenge for 2nd would resolve the issue. In fact the 3rd place finisher may actually have a better record within the bracket than the 2nd place finisher due to the sheer number of matches it takes to get to the consolation finals. Just a thought to get the kids some even more mat time. Then again in a 64 man bracket the kids would probably get plenty of mat time \:\)

... and of course you can run into problems with the number of matches wrestled in a day!

Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?
