The Leavenworth County Spartans will offer year round training to those who are interested. After this weekend we will transition from a folkstyle focus to freestyle and greco focus. Practices will be on Tues and Thurs in the Leavenworth/Lansing area. Our predominate focus will be freestyle/greco through July, however, if kids want to practice folkstyle we will have a coach to help them during the same times.

We take a 1 month break in August. We resume pre-season practices in Sept. We call this our "March to the Rockies" because we culminate our pre-season training at the Fall Brawl and the Rocky Mountain National Monster Match.

If you are interested or have questions please contact me or Mike Flynn.

Friends of Wrestling,

First, just wanted to say thanks to all concerned that were apart of getting the Leavenworth County Wrestling Team off the ground this year.

It all started with a vision of three guys last July. Lots of planning, marketing, fundraisers, and volunteering later, a team was born. Initially we thought 30-35 kids. By Dec, we passed the 100 wrestler mark and currently have 136 wrestlers on our books. More to come with Freestyle and college kids coming home for the summer.

None of this would be possible without the hard work of Team President Jeff Butler and Head Coach Shawn Budke. Supported by over 15 volunteer coaches and parent administrators, this vision quickly turned into a reality. Additionally, fantastic financial support from the Leavenworth County community enabling us to keep the price down ($80) to kids, while outfitting each wrester with a singlet, headgear, t-shirt and shorts.

We also got great support from our local papers the Lansing Current and Leavenworth Times. See latest Lansing Current articles:

Spartans Snag Two Titles

Local Wrestlers Earn All-American Honors

A Big thanks to the Leavenworth School Board, Lansing School Board, and Xavier Elementary School...all providing us practice facilities at no charge.

Finally, hats of to all the wrestlers. I can speak for all the coaches that we have thoroughly enjoyed watching you grow as wrestlers and as people. Keep up the hard work!

Here is our Freestlye Plan

-------------------

Leavenworth County Wrestling Team
2007 Freestyle and Greco

1. Welcome to the Leavenworth County Wrestling Team. We are glad to extend our program for spring and summer freestyle / Greco-Roman wrestling. The saying, “Summer Time Wrestling Makes Winter Time Champions”, is not just a catchy slogan. Time and time again, we have watched wrestlers put the time in during the spring and summer and surpass their peers that decided to put their wrestling shoes in the closet until next winter. Improve your wrestling. Be a Spartan!

Our team vision is to—

Provide Leavenworth County a first class wrestling team that uses the sport of wrestling to teach life lessons. Wrestlers will learn the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, fitness for life, work ethic, and goal setting.

Our team motto is –

Building Champions for the Game of Life

2. Age: 5 years old and up (college wrestlers welcomed)

3. Cost: We are a non-profit organization and make every attempt possible to keep cost to our wrestlers at a minimum. Our freestyle/ Greco-Roman fees will help buy team singlets.

• New Members: $50 + USAW Competitors Card. Team membership includes short and t-shirt and the use of a blue and red singlet for the spring/summer.
• Spartan Folkstyle Members: If you are currently a Spartan that registered this fall, the cost is $25.00.

Note: High school wrestlers that recently registered for the post-high school folk style and freestyle season are paid up.

4. Practice Times and Locations: Practices are Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 7:45 at Xavier Middle School (5th and Kickapoo, Leavenworth).

• First freestyle practice is 10 April
• Freestyle / Greco Rules Clinic is 12 April at Saint James Academy, Lenexa
