˜ In 2005, THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL was selected as a Blue Ribbon School, based on outstanding state and national test scores. THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL was one of seven Kansas schools selected, and the only school in Wichita, private or public, to be selected.
˜ THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL is the only school in Wichita to have received this award in the past six years and the only private school in Wichita to have ever received this award.
˜ THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL consistently receives the Standard of Excellence for State Assessments.
˜ In 2005, THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL had a greater percentage of seniors as National Merit Semi-Finalists than any other Wichita school, public or private. Historically, one out of every eight INDEPENDENT SCHOOL graduates has been recognized as a National Merit Commended or Finalist scholar.
˜ INDEPENDENT SCHOOL graduates are currently enrolled in Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, UC Berkeley, Tulane, Washington University in St. Louis, and many other top-ranked universities.
˜ THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL’s 43 seniors in the Class of 2005 amassed over $3.3 million in merit-based scholarships. The 48 seniors in the Class of 2006 accumulated over $3.8 million in merit-based scholarships. (Merit-based scholarship numbers do not include financial aid awards).

Founded in 1980 by Mrs. Jean K. Garvey, who saw a need for a new private school.

Founded with 8 students in small building on Bluffview. Now over 765 students attending Pre-K through 12th grade.
Presently located on 14 acres on Douglas Avenue between Rock and Webb Roads.
