No problems other than my son taking 2nd and getting a bronze medal instead of silver. He didn't pay attention to it and I didn't see it till we got home. If somebody could tell me how I could swap this for the correct medal that would be great.

Does the color of the medal really matter? You know you got 2nd so why swap for a silver? Good job on 2nd. but trying to get a silver medal good luck.

Maybe not to some people, but if I can I will get it replaced. To me it is at least worth a try, that is the mom in me I guess.

I saw a few things there that REALLY concerned me!
1st. We had 14 year olds on half mats. I was of the understanding the 14 years olds were always to wrestle on a full mat. When this issue was brought up we felt like they were just looking right through us and had more important things to do. Well, when you have two young men at 175 lbs. trying to wrestle on a half mat, its pretty important! That's just not very much room! There was a lot of going out of bounds and it really effected these guys being able to set up and work moves.
2nd. The 8 and under Heavy Weight class was pretty upsetting. They had 3 round robin brackets and in each brackets there were huge weight differences. They had kids that weighed 91 lbs going up againest kids that were over 130 lbs. They also did not mark the actual weight on the arms of all the kids. Some of them had the weight and some just said HWT. This was brought to their attention on Friday night (MORE THEN PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE CHANGES) and we were informed (very rudely) that they had tried to group them by their ranking! I just don't understand that! OK this 52lb A wrestler is good to go againest this 88lb A wrestler. That just don't make any sense! We were also told that they where allowed 25lbs. I thought at 8U they were only allowed 15lbs. There were plenty of kids to wrestle and every bracket had these mismatches. They could of filled these brackets in 10lb to 15lb increments and made it a lot more competitive. I felt like they had no reguard for fairness or the safety of these kids. We even had refs looking at the size difference and looking up at the coaches.
I am just glad no one was hurt!
I hope the people at Maize will take the time next year to address these issues. I would also like to try to hear a response from someone who is more knowledgable of the rules then I and let me know if my concerns are valid.

BLT- Under rule 2-1-2 is says that the required wrestling space will be: Under 11 - 15 X 15, 11 - 14, 20 X 20, and 15 - 16 will be 24' square or a 28' circular diameter. I know half mats are a little small for 14u but in some cases that is what has to be done.

you put them on the smaller mat so they will wrestle and not run away. you watch the free style men wrestle and they usually stay in a small area.

cc&djmom, Sorry about the mix up. Yes We will get the right medal to you. Your boy earned it and he should have it. Call me and I will take care of it.
We have always ran Half mats and most tournaments do. Yes it is a little tight for the bigger boys. It is eather that way or we are there until 10 or 11.
The 8U HWT brackets. We bracket the A & B, C and Some D and Try to keep our D wrestlers together. I remember talking to you. Your son was a 100lb A wrestler that wrestles national tournaments (tulsa). I will not put him in a B or C bracket with C an D Wrestlers. He will Kill them. Is it about just getting a metal or is it about wrestling the best westler you can get to make your son better?
We hope everyone enjoyed the tournament and we thank all of you for comming.

Good tourney Maize. Thanks to the Fitzmeiers, Hughbanks, Warners, Onwugbugors, Murphy's, Holmgrens, Baldwins, Jurgensens, and many others that I know I'm missing. Even Dulaney seemed to pull his weight which is unbelievable. Good job again this year.

Thanks Tbonesdad, but we did find the right medal yesterday. I totally forgot I had another wrestlers medal in my bag, and my son had the right medal in his wrestling bag. So we are all good!!

Spex I didn't think you were a horses putoot, no worries!!

I thought it was a well run tourney, good job!!

My apologies for not congratulating Maize on a very well ran, and very competitive tournament. I have just now had access to a computer. KMac I thought you had my back on telling Maize how well they did?????

Thanks, Maize, for running one of the best tournaments of the year. Only the second one we've been to that started on time (Salina was the other).

Regarding the 8 and under heavyweight division: I watched most of the matches and didn't see any real mismatches. The most dangerous kid (in a good way) was the kid that won (Capul), and he didn't look to be over 110 pounds. The heaviest kid (Bowen) was probably 125-130, but I'm not sure he won any matches. Unruh is usually around 118 and Tracy is probably under 110. That leaves Lieurance. Are you saying he's only 91 pounds? If so, he did a good job against some bigger kids, but he didn't look like he was in danger. Worse was Tulsa Nationals where there was almost a 50 pound differential (155 to 108) between the lightest and heaviest heavyweights. Interestingly, the 108 pound kid won that tournament.

Beeson,
I started to throw your name in there until I talked trash to Dulaney. I knew you wouldn't be away from a computer for more than a day anyway. I knew you would hit a truck stop somewhere and get your 2 cents in....and you came through.

my boy(Lieurance) is the one from OK that wrestled 8U Hwt. I am not tbonesdad and I am not the one that made the comment!! While my son did not wrestle well and we were not particulary pleased with the size difference, I was NOT the one on here complaining.

We are not trophy hunters. We did not make a 3.5 hour drive and spend a couple of hundred dollars for a medal. If all we wanted was another medal or trophy we could have stayed local.

My son had some good competition even though 2 of the 3 matches he wreslted, he was giving up a lot of weight. My son didn't complain(although I know the size bothered him). He wrestled some tough kids and gained some valuable experience.

Trentons Dad- In my comment about the 8U HWTs, it was not directed to you. I also talked to you about your boy and told you the weight differences in the bracket before you even entered the tournament, and you didn't have a problem with them. BLT on the other hand was wanting her son to wrestle in a B or C bracket with C & D wrestlers as a A wrestler the travels to Tulsa to wrestle in the national tournament. That is not going to happen. Kansas changed the weights and our 8U go from 88lbs to HWT. I agree there is a huge weight difference there and any tournament is allowed 25lbs. The young man that won our tournament in WHT was the smallest and lightest and I have not heard him complain.
Trentons Dad I hope you enjoyed our tournament and will return next year with some of your team mates. Thank You for comming and traveling the 3 hours.

Capul has only lost one match this year. He might be the strongest kid I have ever seen. If you get the chance, you have to see him on the mat.
