Don't count out Tate Steele; he was not at the Classic.

Gentzler will be at 52 for state. Jarred Parenti would be another to add to the mix for 55. I would have to agree that Tate will be a contender for the number 1 spot.

At #55 you have 3 returning state placers:
Joint
Steele
Treaster

Spexarth and Schroeder should both in the mix as well.

State is an awesome experience in itself! All of the kids who make it through Subs and on to Districts and State have worked hard and put in a lot of time and effort. This is our 3rd year of wrestling and I enjoy watching other matches especially of those kids in and out of his age group and weight class that our son has been up against in the past. I look forward to seeing those who were state qualifiers last year and those who have worked hard this year to get the chance to become a state qualifier and hope to become a state placer. I will be looking forward to watching Hunter Skeens, Tate Steele, Gary Joint and also Case Pemberton (10U who was State Champion last year in my sons bracket) just to name a few. I believe the thing to remember is all the matches will be good matches and the kids have put a lot of time and effort into being there.

I myself am hoping to watch my son...8U 58lbs, Dylan Gowin, Leavenworth County Spartans! District 1 North! I wish all wrestlers Good Luck and a Congratulations for working so hard!

Hutchinson from Smith Center and the 2 kids from Phillipsburg are very good at 8U58. Cant think of one from Phillipsburg (Hoft maybe)but I think he is something like 23-1.

Every kid that makes it to state is a very good wrestler. To pick out the Championship round at either weight is impossible,(Jurgens may be an exception) We have wrestled both 58 and 55 and have beaten some and lost to some,it just depends on what kid shows up at state.

top at 55: Treaster, Joint, Schroeder, Spexarth, Steele, Skeens and Paretti, are some of the kids we've seen do very well at this weight.

at 58: Jurgens, Terrill, Guyer, Murphy, Lowell, Ayala, Grantham, are all very good and should be some good wrestling.

Remember the movie "Any given Sunday" At these 2 weights it could be "Any given day!!"

Good luck to all wrestlers this weekend!!!!

There are so many kids out there at 55 and 58 hard to say.
I would say Juergens should be the top contender at 58 unless theres a upset which i think could happen when you throw Lowell in the mix he has always been a tough kid.Terill is a solid wrestler to then you have Guyer and Murphy and Ayala all dangerous kids at that weight.
At 55 i think the front runner right now would have to be Treaster hes the one to beat Spexarth has been coming on strong and Steele always dangerous my son hasnt had a chance to wrestle Skeens,Paretti or Schroder which makes this sport so great you never know whats going to happen with all these kids it comes down to just one thing who is going to make that mistake on the mat who wants it more and who has the patience on the mat i cant wait hopefully Gary will make it to the big dance and have a chance to find out. I am actually sad the season is coming to a end this has been a awseome year of wrestling and iam glad we are wrestling in the state of Kansas very good wrestlers here. I forgot someone have to mention his name Webb and Bramlage i think those two kids could surprise some kids at state this year and there only 7. Good luck to all the wrestlers at sub's to state!

Its all speculation of course but fun to do . . . that's why people do the office pools during March Madness . . . we'll know the final answer in just over two weeks.

55 Treaster, Joint, Steele, Schroeder, Spexarth, and Parenti. Skeens and Webb will be in there too.

58 Jurgens, Murphy, Ayala, Terrill, Guyer, Cassaboom, Gowin, and Lowell. Unfortunately one of those very good District 2 kids won't get to go because there are five of them.

These two weights are tough with a number of great wrestlers. Jurgens and Treaster are probably the favorites, but Jurgens was the favorite last year at his weight only to get beaten in the quarter finals by Case Pemberton. Pemberton went on to beat three number 1 seeds in a row in Jurgens, Treaster, and Smith to win the championship. Plus how the brackets come out may make a big difference on some of these kids knocking each other out. So, its never over until you wrestle the match - isn't this a great sport!
