My child wrestles to learn how to compete. He learns how to win and how to lose the last thing that I would ever consider would be to put my 6 yr old in mma and say go beat the h--- out of some kid. I dont agree one bit with putting kids in mma. At 6 yrs old kids are thinking that it is ok to beat kids up and proud of it...dont think so! 6 year olds are supposed to be having fun and meeting new friends not wanting to beat the h--- out of some kid.

i would agree , i believe wrestling is a good start to mma, if that's what you choose for a path. i see nothing wrong with traing and learning the mma game at a young age but wait till your older to compete.

but then again we have 5&6 year olds competing in, golden gloves boxing, wrestling, judo, karate, shoot fighting. the list goes on and on. there all aggresive sports. this just combines all these sports into one. and the kids compete.

so ask yourself this and give an honest opinion. is mma that much diffrent than wrestling & kids boxing. wrestling your taught to take your guy down some times a hard slam is involved& sometimes a painful position is involved.

boxing there taught to punch the other guy in the face and body.
now is it wrong to comine the two into a sport for kid's. i do see both sides.

If it was truely a combination of the two sports, then I wouldn't see anything wrong with it.

Wear regular boxing gloves
No slams
No choking
No submission holds
Display sportsmanship

tell me how could they wrestle in boxing gloves, wrestling has slams, you use wrestling moves to usally set up a submission, i have seen choking in folksyle wresting matches.

and if you have watched mma fights you would know they have great sportsmanship and i have also seen bad sportsmanship in folkstyle wrestling as well.

i have also seen blood and broken bones in folkstyle wrestling as well.

I think we're talking about a little bit different type of slam here. I don't know the ultimate fighter's name (probably 6 years ago), but the best slam I ever saw was in a championship match. He shot in on a double-leg, went airborne, planted the guy on the mat, and came down with his shoulder in the guy's throat. Of course it was over, and it was legal in UFC. You try that move even in college, and you're done.

or here's another one. i can go on and on posting high light's but now you know that there are some pretty hard slams in wrestling, and i believe this one is close to the one you seen in the ufc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMQZW6SLHtk

i will not post no more video's unless you are still un sure there are not some hard slams in wrestling lol.

and i myself do not believe letting little kids fight like this but i always try and look at both sides.

Do you realize that this is rediculous. I don't care to watch any videos. Everybody saw a hard slam in the NCAA D1 National Championships. I thought it was close to being called illegal, and it definitely would have been if he tried to purposely knock his opponent out by planting his shoulder in his throat on the way down. Is there any question about that???

yes this is rediculous, so i will make one more point, and try and leave it at that.

you said that combining the two sports would be okay as long as 1 there were no slams. what is the diffrence between slamming some one to knock them out on purpose, or going out there and punching them in the face until you knock them out both ways there lights are out.

and 2 combining the wrestling and boxing would be okay if they wore regular boxing gloves. not for sure but i believe it would be hard to wrestle with the gloves on.

and as far as sportsmanship well that should always be no matter what sport. well enough text messageing, and debateing i do see your point on some but not all.

was not comparing kids to the slams, i was comparing slams in wrestling.
you can go on youtube and find more hard slams in wrestling than you could in all of the ufc's.

I will be the first to admit that...I'm not all there. With that being said I think it is wrong for any kid (under 18) to be involved in this type of sport. The guys that do this and are successful are just a little off. It takes a certain type of person to knock another human being out and then continue to beat on them until the ref pulls them off. I don't care what the fathers in the article say about discipline. These kids will be in trouble at some time in their life because of their MMA training. It is not like boxing, karate, or wrestling. These sports have limits, and everyone knows when a match is over. In MMA these guys would continue to beat a dead man. Kids should not be involved in this.

i 100 percent agree. just to clarify!!! I DO NOT CONDONE THIS TYPE OF SPORT FOR CHILDREN AT ALL. AND I NEVER WILL. AND I HOPE THEY BAN IT IN ALL STATES.

I MERLY POSTED IT BECAUSE IT WAS A NEW TOPIC AND SOME WOULD LIKE TO READ IT, I HAVE DEBATED OVER A FEW COMMENTS. ABOUT WEARING BOXING GLOVES IN A COMBINED WRESTLING / BOXING MATCH. AND ABOUT THE SLAMS EVERY ONE HERE KNOW WRESTLING HAS HAD SOME HORRIBLE SLAMS.

!!!! I DO NOT CONDONE THIS SPORT FOR CHILDREN IN ANYWAY !!!!!

Yeah, there is no difference. Uh, that was my point -- reread it. Either one will surely get you ejected from a wrestling tournament, without a doubt.

Yes it would, and that is one reason why the 2 sports could never be "truely" combined into 1.

Before I go any further, I should first find out what style of wrestling you are referring to. WWF?? Man, when I used to wrestle against Bret the Hitman, Andre the Giant, and Mr. Numberwonderful Paul Orndorff, we used to have brutal slams all the time. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in a cage match against 9 other guys. Andre the Giant threw me against the cage and rubbed my face against it. While I was on the ground, I pulled out a razor blade and made a small cut on my forehead. It blead pretty good and the crowd loved it. Yeah, good times, good times. I see your point now -- it's the same thing.

I agree wholeheartedly with Beeson.

I also agree with Nix statement about making it unlawful to allow those under 18 to engage in MMA.

This is just plain stupid.
