Tell me there is no fat in the “Money Sports”. The advertising budgets could fund another Minor Non-Revenue program or 2 at each Division I school in Kansas.

Kansas University vs Davidson Revenues and Expense Data 2006/07

Source: US Department of Education
http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/InstList.asp

This web site link above gives several pieces of data for most colleges in the country. A Very good web site.

At the college level how can it cost $5 million more to field a D-I basketball team? Or how can one team spend more than $85,000
per player than another team and call that an even playing field. I understand it at the professional level New York Yankees vs the Kansas City Royals. Like I said the administration needs to sharpen their pencils and give Kansas home grown kids in minor sports the same opportunities for an education as they do for kids from out of state.

KU Data Expense for Men's Basketball - $6,170,233
Davidson Expense for Men's Basketball - $1,144,821

KU Data Expense for Men's Basketball per player-
operating expense per player $104,812

Davidson Expense for Men's Basketball per player -
operating expense per player $15,467

KU Head Coach Base Salary - $700,000 plus
Davidson Coach Base Salary - $85,000

Little Old Davidson - Enrollment 1,700 and they have wrestling.
Davidson fields 10 men’s sports and 9 women’s sports. Not sure how that works with Title IX. I did not dig into the participation numbers. No football team. Maybe there is hope for D-I at Newman, Baker, Ottawa, etc. The Big 12 schools in Kansas and Wichita State Administration need a reality check - maybe give up a little of their pension plan, car allowance, travel budget, and give Kansas kids that are in minor sports an opportunity to stay in state and get an education. After my discussion with administration Ad's, Presidents, etc. They feel they are untouchable and they are above the taxpayer who allows them to be at these state institutions. By the way, their place of employment and the ground under the buildings they work in is own by us the taxpayer. We need to get these guys off their high horse and it is time to educate the administration and some of our own home grown kids. These big schools need pressure from the news media, The Kansas Board of Regents, Politicians, us - we the people of Kansas; if it takes a legislator to write legislation then we should do it. Financial plans have been discussed. I threw out a $5 to $10 million dollar number - I was told it would take more like $50 million for a 10 year plan. Of course that would include 2 more women’s sports and facility improvements. These guys need to sharpen their pencils more often and quit putting their hand out for more, more, more - fatter budgets.

If we had a D-1 wrestling program how many of the wrestler's would be "local home grown" ?

I guess you would consider some of the kids below as home grown.

If you started to build with Kansas Kids alone - there have been some pretty talented kids that did not or do not have the opportunity to stay in state. Below are a few recent classes from past years and kids that will be leaving for greener pastures this year. The talent has been here and is continuing to build.

Passed group of kids from Kansas in 2006 as an example:

As we saw Kansas coaches move into leadership roles at the collegiate level, we were also treated to outstanding performances on the mats by our Kansas wrestlers, beginning with nine NCAA Division I national qualifiers and six All-Americans. Shawn Bunch (Edinboro / Leavenworth) lead the pack with a 3rd place finish at 133 lbs. Joe Johnston (Iowa / Shawnee Mission East), came in 5th at 157 lbs, followed by Tyler McCormick (Missouri / Blue Valley North) at 133 lbs and Jacob Klein (Nebraska / Kapaun-Mt. Carmel) at 174 lbs, both of whom finished 7th. Also earning All-American status were 8th place finishers Tanner Gardner (Stanford / Shawnee Heights) at 125 lbs and Eric Luedke (Iowa / Colby) at 165 lbs.

Joining their fellow Kansans at the Division I Championships were qualifiers Austin DeVoe (Missouri / Columbus), Jake Kriegbaum (Air Force / Abilene) and Justin Dyer (Oklahoma / Olathe South).

Future group from this year as an example - high school class of 2008

Below is what is on Intermat: 2008 college signings or verbal commitments from Kansas high schools

Isenberg - Nebraska
Cotton - Nebraska
Koehn - Nebraska
Tannenbaum - Cal Poly
Flynn - South Dakota State
Thoman - Pratt CC
Jordan Keller - Cleveland State
Fisher - FHSU
Andrus - Michigan State
Disney - Minnesota
McCormick - Missouri

The late signing period is not until April so I would anticpate several other KS kids signing then. Scott Elliott, Joe Bach, Matt Noblet, Tyson Graham, Mitch Arnold, Ryan Patterson are just a few who I am looking forward to see what they do.:
