Is there a KHSAA rule that prevents HS teams for practicing over Christmas break. My son's HS wrestling coach told him they could not have practice for 8 days per the school board. Is this a state wide deal or a District rule? Or BS?

According to the KSHSAA the Holiday non-practice dates are Dec 23 thru Dec 27th.

If a kid wants to work out on their own they can, just not with their team.

As Mike said they can workout on thier own, but i don't believe in can be on school property. I don't think any sport can practice in the school. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that is the rule. Blake Arnberger

This is true,According to the KSHSAA the Holiday non-practice dates are Dec 23 thru Dec 27th.
Any practices after these dates can not be mandatory, cause there is no school.

The moratorium on practices dates is established by KSHSAA. It is almost always (always?) a five day period and includes all school activities over those dates. Practices are not declared to be non-mandatory by KSHSAA. That would be school policy. I think that most coaches understand that kids might have some difficulty over the Holidays. It would make it very difficult to punish a kid for missing a practice if he was to be with a non custodial parent over a specific part of Christmas break, for example. Without a doubt, some coaches understand that better than others.
