Now that's actually a good dual. I have it 7-1-6 for 6A. Those 6 toss-ups would have to all go 5A's way to make that dual close. Great matches though!

Vesta/Stokes
Cox/Nitcher
Madl/Blair
Caldwell/Detmer

This is extremely difficult to predict at this point. Some of these may not even end up in the weight classes they are currently listed at. Without a doubt some of these weight classes will end up with different champions than the ones that Will is projecting. He is probably using the current official KWCA 5A and 6A rankings. I know these rankings show some wrestlers in different weight classes than they are currently wrestling at. As an example of how difficult it is to pick these champions at this point, here is what you predicted last 10-08-2007 for a similar scenario of 5A vs. 6A:

Quote:
Now that is a good topic.
6A vs. 5A
103 - Vesta vs. Seaton (3-0)
112 - Furches vs. Keller (6-0) *
119 - Hernandez vs. Keller (6-4)
125 - McCormick vs. Stults (9-4)
130 - Tanenbaum vs. Graham (12-4) *
135 - Caldwell vs. Hagan (15-4)
140 - Fisher vs. Isenberg (15-6) *
145 - Means vs. Arnold (15-9) *
152 - Houlden vs. Detmer (15 - 13)
160 - Bonewell vs. Koehn (15 - 16)
171 - Beard vs. Lorson (18-16)
189 - Baker vs. Cotton (18-22)
215 - Caylor vs. Elliott (18-25)
285 - Andrus vs. Disney (18-28)
*Toss-up matches

Prediction: 18-28 - 5A

Here is what the pairings between 6A-5A 2008 actual champions would have been:

5A vs. 6A

103-Blaine Smith Salina South - Isaac Ruiz Junction City
112-Tyler Stokes Gardner Edgerton-Daniel DeShazer Wichita Heights
119-Jordan Keller Bishop Carroll-Jesse Barber Dodge City
125-John Keller Bishop Carroll-Nathan McCormick Blue Valley
130-Trison Graham Ark City-Kendrick Maple Wichita Heights
135-Cade Blair Valley Center-Chase Nelson Wichita Heights
140-Phillip Henes Aquinas- Tyler Caldwell Goddard
145-Mitch Arnold Bishop Carroll-Ryan Houlden Goddard
152-Pete Tapia Winfield-Brent Fisher Goddard
160-Tyler Rosenhamer Bishop Carroll-Brandon Bonewell Goddard
171-Scott Elliott Ark City-Boaz Beard Goddard
189-Romero Cotton Hutchison-Blake Long Derby
215-Joe Bach Liberal- Kyle Caylor Wichita Northwest
285-Atticus Disney Shawnee Heights- Brock Heithaus Wichita Northwest

By my tally you picked 7 champions in 5A and 7 champions in 6A and not all in the correct weight class. That is only 50%. That is the problem with picking these results too far in advance. Too many things can happen between now and the state tournaments. An example would be an injury like Andrus sustained early in the season last year that took him out of the picture.

I think it would be better to make this type of projection after the state touraments are over. I would have been more interested in reading your predictions of such a dual on the actual champions that I listed above rather than the ones you listed so far in advance in October 2007.

Chief, how would you have projected a dual of the actual 5A and 6A 2008 champions from above? I would have loved to have seen a matchup of Elliot and Beard at 171.

With the champions listed above, I have 5A winning 6, losing 5, with 3 toss-ups. A very close dual.

Beard wins at 171.

Can you specify it per match and per point per match like you did in October 2007?

I would think that the Beard and Elliott match would be one of your toss-up matches. Did they ever wrestle?

Thanks

I don't believe they wrestled last year. The measuring stick was their common opponent Tyler Koehn. Beard beat Koehn 11-5 and Elliott had a much closer match with Tyler. I would say that Beard would be the favorite, but I'm sure it would be a good match.

In my opinion:

103, 152 and 160 are toss-ups.
5A wins 119, 125, 145, 189, 215 and 285.
6A wins 112, 130, 135, 140 and 171.

5A would also get bonus points at 119, 145, 189, 215 and 285.
6A has no obvious bonus points.

Eric:

I appreciate your feedback. I think 6A would have had a hard time winning the dual if 5A would get all those bonus points. I do agree that 5A would have come away with a lot of bonus points.

I believe Elliott won the final against Tyler 9-2 last year. I think Tyler is better in a lighter weight class. I think that the Elliott vs Beard match would have been a classic. I could not argue with anyone picking either one of them as the victor but in my opinion it should be rated a true toss-up pick.

Thanks for your picks.

Chief-
Not only did Scott win handily at state he also pinned Koehn at regionals.

Tyler could have made weight at 152lbs. if he wanted to. Elliot was just to big for him.
