Two things I have to say...

One is I think this and Beliot would have to be the toughest 2 321A Regionals without a doubt.

Two...
how is it decided when a regional is bid on who gets it, and why award it to a school that can not meet the criteria (3 mats)? I know for a fact that Goodland bid on this regional and thought it is farther for some to drive to...we are not all communting to Hays and back for food and lodging. We can get 3 mats easily in one area; and actually hold up to 6 if you divide the mats in the two separate gyms we have in one building. (4 in the fieldhouse sqeezed in and 2 in the Junior High gym connected to the fieldhouse.)

Just Wondering and Good Luck to all wrestlers! The butterflies have begun :-)

Using three mats is not a criteria for hosting a 2 day regional wrestling tournament. Whether it should be or not is a whole other area for discussion!

Every KSHSAA Member school in the state has the opportunity at the start of each school year to submit a "Request to Host" for post season activities, not limited to only athletics. From the list of schools who have submitted requests the KSHSAA selects hosts for the various activities.

In regards as to "the how and why" of who is selected--there does not seem to be an easily discernible "pattern." About the time I think I have it figured out, I am surprised.

Those of us competing at Ellis will just have to "cowboy up" knowing it will probably be a late night on Friday--and also knowing it will seem even later when we get the report at 8:00 p.m. that Beloit is done for the night! ;-)

When will the brackets be up? Is there a seeding meeting before friday?

The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital.

I'm sure there will be when the seeding meeting is over. It started at 10 this morning.

Norton looks like they have run away with this tournament setting themselves up for another "chase for the cup" at Hays with Beloit and Smith Center. They already have eight wrestlers qualified into the finals, three waiting on the backside semifinals, and two others in the consolation rounds.
