An issue that hits close to home in every sense of the phrase. This year, right here in Kansas, Shawnee Mission Northwest lost it's state title due to a complaint of their coach.

In our sport where judgment is used on virtually every call, it goes without saying that in every tight match someone is going to be happy and someone probably is not. I would certainly hate to see something like this happen in our sport.

In 1985 Wichita North lost the wrestling state title because the coach argued a call in the state finals. Lost by 1/2 a point.

Obviously can't comment on it. I was born the next year!

Rules 6-6-6 & 7-5-4 clearly spell out coach misconduct. In a close contest, there is no excuse for a coach to cost his team a point. A coach is allowed to pop off once, with no recourse. After that warning, only a selfish coach would go back to the well for more.

Not sure how it works in gymnastics, but I would be surprised if the coach wasn't warned at some point. She also admitted she was wrong, but argued that the rule hadn't been enforced before. That's a pretty weak argument, in my opinion.
