Okay so we are in distrcit one from what I can tell from the maps etc. I saw on the calendar that there is a South Subdristict on March 13th and champonships on March 20th. Can anyone fill me in on how this works being our first year?

I mean do you have to win so many matches to qualify to go or does everyone in the district go? Do you have to be invited or what? I am just trying to look ahead at the schedule and keep my weekends open for my son to be able to let him attend all the tournaments that he possibley can in order to make the most out of the season.

Thanks!

He will need to place top 4 in the the SubDistrict to move on to Districts. Then place top 4 in Districts to move on to State. Hope that helps. Makes it hard not knowing if he will be wrestling or not. We've been fortunate that we have weekends off and don't have to work around that. I go ahead and take Friday off for traveling and weighing in at State just in case.

Your son must place in the top 4 in subdistrict & district to go to state. Any one can enter subs but only the top 4 advances to district Championships.

So does everyone enter the subdistrict then or do they have to qualify for that as well and if so what does that consist of? Sorry I know I am asking a lot of questions but I am just trying to understand how all this works.

You do not have to qualify for subs.

Good question Zach's mom. Everything you've done during the season starts with Sub-Disricts....you will need to sign up quite a bit ahead of time in advance with your club (your coach's will attend a "seeding meeting" with your son's record) and he will start his journey to the Topeka State Folkstyle Championships. The top 4 winners of each age/wt class sign up after sub-district for District. IF, your wrestler does not make the top 4 their season is over. I would encourage if your child is interested freestyle & greco.

At District the top 8 of their age/weight class within your District wrestle. Culling the top 4 which continue for their chance in the Sweet 16 kids bracket across the State (Districts 1-4) being represented. I would encourage you to attend a day at the State championships---inspirational for your child for next year & the years to come. Best of luck !

Thank you very much for that information. When is this 'seeding meeting' that you are talking about? It seems that if i don't ask our coach about it he never says anything to our boys about it. I am hoping that maybe next year I can get my son in a different club that is more focused because this not know anything is really frustrating.

Also I was looking at the calendar and it has the dates for the 2009 State Champonship but what about 2010. do we know when those will be schedules again?

Maybe you could email your club if u have a question about sub's, districts and state. Or go to a practice and ask one of the coach about it and they could explain it to u.

Also,

Depending on weight and age of your wrestler, he or she may not have to place in top 4 at Subs or Dist to advance. If the other sub-district in your district does not have 4 finishers you may still be able to advance or the other 3 dists don't have 4 finishers to total 16 wrestlers you may have a chance to still advance to State. It gets a little weird there, but it does happen that nobody enters or there are very few wrestlers in that age and weight. So you will need to pay attention to what goes on in your other sub district and then what goes on in the other 7 sub-districts as you progress. Use track wrestling to view what goes on in other subs/districts to keep informed. Hope this helps as well. Troy
