I believe I have seen 2 total names combined between Newman and Benedictine wrestling. Are the Catholic Schools not getting kids to commit? Where are there signees?

I kind of have fallen a little bit behind this week. I have had some business and personal time committments that I needed to prioritize. We went a long time with no new changes or additions but several did pop open this week.

I do have several from Benectine to report. Remember too that Benedictine does not start wrestling until Fall of 2012 so we should not anticipate a lot of signings this year. But I do have some that I am going to share with you now. I do not have any from Newman but I will contact Coach Smith to see if he has any that he would like to update us on.

Head Coach Ken Kepley has confirmed that Kaleb Bonilla of Goddard High School will be on wrestling scholarship next year at Pratt Community College.

Kaleb Bonilla was State Champion in 2010 at 103 6A and 2nd Place at State in 2011 at 112 6A.

I know a lot of the Kansas Wrestling Community follows this topic on a regular basis. Over the three years that I have been compiling, researching and reporting on this list, I have received a lot of help from you. I have also received a lot of compliments from you about it. You have shown great appreciation for it and it certainly has more than made my time involved more than well worth it. I get as excited about hearing about all the individual wrestlers who are committing to go on to college to fulfill their post high school wrestling and academic dreams.

At this time I am going to ask you a favor. Please take the time to get involved in the new Kansas College Wrestling Fund. I have personally spent a great deal of time over the last four to five months helping to get this fund started. I plan to devote more time as a helper to promote the fund in the future. I have already sent in my first financial donation to the fund. I urge all of you to do the same with whatever you can do in the form of a financial donation. All the donations are important (Big or Small). The important thing is to make one. Perhaps you can best do it on a regular monthly basis. I know there is a way to automatically deposit from your account an amount into this fund. Contact Sean McCarthy for more information on that. And the most important thing we all can do is to contribute our time and talent to help promote this Kansas College Wrestling Fund in our local wrestling communities.

As a wrestling community we cannot depend on College Athletic Departments, College Presidents or Legislators to do the job for us. If we want college wrestling for all these deserving young wrestlers we have to financially support it. Please join this fight by supporting the Kansas College Wrestling Fund with your time, talent and treasure.

I have also received information that Trent Robb might be changing from his previous plans to play football at Ottawa University to possibly wrestling at Neosho County Community College next year. However I do not have confirmation yet on this yet from Trent's parent or the Neosho coaching staff so I am waiting to update the list at this time.

This is what I posted about Colt Rogers signing to play football at Pitt State a year ago.

Here is what the Pittsburg State Football Recruiting Announcement had to say about Colt Rogers:

Hometown: Smith Center, Kan.
High School: Smith Center
H.S. Coach: Roger Barta
Honors/Stats: A third-team Kansas Top 11 (All-State, All-Class) selection by the Wichita Eagle and Topeka Capital-Journal as a senior in 2009… a first-team Class 2A All-State performer… rushed for 1,935 yards during his senior season, helping the Redmen to a 12-1 record and the 2A state runner-up finish… compiled 4,600 career rushing yards as a four-year starter… helped Smith Center to three straight 2A state titles from 2006-08… the Redmen posted a 51-1 record during his four-year prep career… also a three-time state champion wrestler, helping Smith Center to three straight 321A state titles (2007-09)… also a state medalist in the pole vault and the 300m hurdles in track & field.

Colt Rogers like Mark Kolmer is a rare star three sport athlete. We can add that Colt Rogers joined a very rare crowd in winning his fourth Kansas state high school championship this year. He truly has had an historic high school athletic career and has to be considered one of the All Time Top Kansas Athletes.

I noticed above that Newman wrestling roster lists - 141- Zach Bainter (Transfer- Garden City CC)

I believe Bainter was running track for Garden last year and did very well.(was a state champ in a couple of events in track also) He was a 4 time state placer at Norton, winning it in 2009 at 140.

I had heard that Colt was going to wrestling for Benedictine and posted that under the "Who will Benedictine hire" thread on the college forum a couple weeks ago. I deleted the post when I found out that wasn't true. Glad to see that he IS actually going to be back on the mat!!!
