PJ is an animal as well. Strength, quickness, and a very good knowledge base for wrestling. He will be tough to beat, especially if he grew during the summer.

Going back to 171, If free of injury, look for Spencer Wilson to be in your top 5 before the year is up. The kid is underestimated by coaches and opponent's. He has a proven record against nationally ranked wrestlers and is improving every day. He just needs a haircut!!! - Get it done Ed. Sorry Spencer, but go LHS - You should have stayed with them as you will never beat them

Good for PJ! A tough kid who can make a big splash as a freshman! A longtime Akin wrestler who's put some time in!

Chief,

St. James placed 8th at state last year, 4A. Their 2 best wrestlers are back; and the only 2 from the team ranked in your rankings; yet you have them ranked as the 10th best team in the state. Doesn't add up.

At 135 you have Williams from Aquinas ranked 10th. He didn't place at state last year. I don't see how he can go from not placing at state in 5A to be being 10th all class? Saying he placed as a freshman at 103 isn't enough criteria.

At 285, the only 4A kid ranked, Denner, did not place in 4A last year. However, 2 285s who did place, Augusta and Eudora, aren't ranked.

At 171 you have Jake Delp CC. Last year he wrestled 215 and finished 3rd 4A. Either he was wrestling up 30 or 40 pounds, or he cut off some limbs.

At 215, the only 4A kid ranked is Kettler. He lost to Delp, Clay Center, at state last year, but Delp isn't ranked. There are a couple of other 4A 215 pounders who placed last year, but are unranked. I think 4A 215 is tougher than 5A. 5A 215 looks very weak again this year, but yet you have 4 kids ranked.

How do your justify Riley Denny as a top 10 171? It's tough for a sophomore in the upper weight classes.

St. James has 6 Qualifiers returning, including two champions. They have two impact freshmen in Reese Cokeley and Trent Salsbury. Zack Pollom got 4th at the Fall Brawl at 171, beating Spencer Wilson and losing in OT to a tough MO kid. Mancuso, Vielhauer and Rory Haug will score points and may place. Do not discount this team. Another team that could fill that #10 is Pittsburg.

After placing as a freshman as well as earning his AA at Fargo, Tommy won 36 matches last year and admittedly had a bad state tournament. He may end up at 130, but when I got to #10 at 135 I considered Johns, Costa, Armstrong, Blackwell and Sharpe among others. I personally think Tommy can beat those guys.

That one is easy. Henning is no longer at Augusta and Molby moved out of state.

A combination of both. He was wrestling up and he IS wrestling 171 this year.

As stated above, Delp is ranked at 171. A case could be made that Oslidal is better than Pacheco, Lanning and Butler. But I haven't heard it.

This point could have merit. Weddington is probably better than Denny. Others could be Nick Meck, Shockley or Wilson. Any ideas?

Appreciate the post!

Delp was wrestling up last year. He weighed 185 at the end of last season. My 189 pounder last season was the 4A 189 state Runner Up. I looked on Ottawa's Football Roster and Oslidil is slated weighing 250, so the likes of him going 215 might be slim.

I am guessing that is his "football" weight. It is funny to me how these kids get 20 lbs added to their weight when they are playing football and then suddenly they are much lighter when they come out for wrestling. Then you have the kids who really weigh 180 but his coach or parents say they weigh 160. Why can't be all just be honest? Maybe football weight includes pads, helmet, and cleats? smile

I think Channing Hosey from Labette County will impact the 171 lb weight class

Next time know your facts before you post, and maybe just maybe chief has more of an idea of what he is talking about than a junior member with 1 post.

Fussy? Nothing wrong with the questions. Even Chief mentioned it was a good post. Anything wrong with being a junior member? first post?

I agree with Chief. Watch out for Saint James, Pittsburg, Lousiburg, Bonner Springs, and Baldwin. There are a lot of over looked teams that can make a difference at the end of the year.

It was stated over a month ago that Delp is going to be at 171 and will be a monster. He could easily contend with the top 4 171 pounders.

Tommy has always been a hit and miss kid to rank. He beats kids that are ranked high like Hunter Haralson and Issac Ruiz, but when it comes to crunch time he doesn't always get the job done. I would expect him to go 130 by the end of the year though and he will probably break the top 4.

4a 215 and 285 are kind of wide open as of right now with no returning placers at 285 anything could happen. Some one to watch out for at 215 is the Eudora football all-star Boomer Mays.

Matt Reed was very successful at 171 as a sophomore last year.

Pittsburg will be tough but they will be without two returning state placers for most of the year.
