This is shaping up to be a really tough squad that is only going to get tougher at the semester. They dominated Pratt last night 31-3 and put it on Neosho 41-3 when they dualed a couple weeks back. There are a lot of solid freshmen that appear to be making the transition into college wrestling. Add the two returning national finalists into that mix and it's looking like they haven't missed a step. I'll be interested to see how the fellas do up at Omaha this weekend.

UNO Kauffman-Brand Open

Several of the Cardinals had a gutsy day at the biggest college wrestling tournament in the country. The following individuals had notable performances and finished as place winners:

Walker Clarke – So. 197 Lost his first match in the Elite Division then came through the back door the hard way with six straight wins to finish 3rd. Walker finished 6-1 with two pins on the day…Impressive performance in the Elite Division!

Jordan Basks- Fr. 133 with 8-1 and 11-1 wins on the front side before falling to the back side and winning a 6-2 decision. Basks then ripped off three straight pins and a medical forfeit to advance to the 3rd/4th place match before winning 3rd place with an 11-5 decision. He finished the day 7-1 in contested matches!

Michael Perez –Fr. 149 Advanced to the semi-finals with four decisions before dropping a 4-2 decision to Jake Ballweg of Iowa. Perez won the next match to advance to the 3rd/4th place match where he dropped a 7-4 decision to a University of Wyoming wrestler. Perez finished 4th with a 5-2 record on the day.

Reno Redleaf- RS Fr. HWT Lost his first contested match of the day to one of the eventual finalists and then went on a terror through the back door winning 6 straight (8-2; 6-3; 7-0; 11-1; 10-3; 8-6) before losing in the 3rd/4th place match 6-3. Reno finished 4th with a record of 6-2 on the day.

Labette and Colby are in action tonight in Colby. I thought we might get lucky and catch a webcast but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I'll post results when I hear something. If anyone is there and can post that would be great.

Colby & Labette wrestle tomorrow in Colby @ 5:30 p.m. I don't believe there is going to be a livecast of the event.

Thanks for the correction Campbell. If anyone has results tonight please post. I think Labette is a little banged up and taking a patch-work team out there and to the Hays Open.

A couple of semester transfers for the Cards. 2010 4A State Finalist and Silver Lake native Brett LaMar has transfered from New Mexico State.
I also understand that 2009 Senior National Champion CJ Napier Of Columbus, KS and the University of Nebraska is on campus, but has yet to join the wrestling team.
