Over the next couple of weeks we will be acquiring a list of those Senior wrestlers who are qualified to compete in this event!

If you have been in the finals in any of the three previous years, you are qualified! If you reach the finals this year, you are qualified!

This event is sponsored by the NHSCA who this year will be hosting the 22nd annual event in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The dates of the competition will be March 31, 2011 thru April 3, 2011.

Kansas in the past has traveled very successfully as a team, led by Chuck & Cherie Elvin and Gary Ulmer! This year Gary Ulmer, myself and my wife will be trying to fill those shoes (with a lot of help from the Elvin's)!

The dates of the actual trip will be March 30 - April 4, 2011!

I am hoping those who have made the trip in the past will chime in on their reflections of the venture!!

Randy & Kathy Jo Hinderliter

Excellent trip, it is very well planned, the town is great, and the wrestling is top notch. I highly recommend the trip to anyone who has the opportunity to go.

History

This event is the most prestigious high school event, in any sport, throughout the country.

The numbers for 2010 High School Nationals: 2,662 Total Competitors for High School Nationals.

The numbers for the 2010 Senior Nationals: 727 Senior Entries
14 4x State Champions
39 3x State Champions
87 2x State Champions
170 1x State Champions

The finalists in the event sported 49 individual state or national prep titles.

At the 2010 Division I Championships, 7 out of the 10 Champions competed in the NHSCA Senior Nationals, including Kyle Dake - 2009 Sr. National Champ and 2010 NCAA Champion as a true freshman.

A springboard to greatness... NHSCA National Championship Events have seen hundreds of its participants enjoy illustrious college careers. Many NCAA champions and All-Americans and USA Olympians have competed in NHSCA National Championship Events when they were in high school. On average NHSCA Senior Nationals alumni make an average of 15 of the 20 NCAA Division I National Wrestling Championship finals appearances each year. On average, they win an average of 8 of the 10 titles. 54 of the 80 2010 NCAA All Americans competed here when they were high school seniors. The 2010 High School Senior Nationals produced some unbelievable talent that is sure to make major waves at the College level in the coming years.

Accept no substitute... Modeled after the NCAA Division I Championship, the NHSCA High School Nationals Wrestling Championship affords you the very best competition in the country and best chance to be noticed by college coaches. This is a showdown where the best meet the best. It will test your mental and physical toughness as a wrestler. This is a tremendous opportunity for the nation's top ranked wrestlers to collide with the "small school" state runner-up, put the rankings aside, and prove they are the top senior wrestler in the country in their weight class. The top 8 place finishers in each weight class will officially be declared High School Senior All-Americans.

A showcase for college recruiting... Every college wrestling coach in the country has been invited to attend this event. Past events have served as tremendous showcases of recruiting for the college coach. Last year, over 200 college and university wrestling coaches attended the event. The list of schools included the top 25 Division I wrestling programs in the country, including free clinics by the best in the field. There have been thousands of scholarships over the past 20 years awarded to individuals because of their performance at this event.

Truly a brilliant wrestling tradition... If you are reading this information, you have already proven yourself to be a great senior wrestler in your home state. If you qualify, you're no longer an unknown in your respective state; however, this is chance to make your mark at the national level. This event remains open to the multiple-time state champion and state runners-up alike and has been proven to be the toughest national challenge for high school seniors in the country. Don't miss your chance to be a part of it. One High School Senior Champion will be crowned in each weight class. The top eight place finishers in each weight class are officially declared High School Senior All-Americans and will receive a statue as well as 3 All-American certificates, one for you, one for your high school trophy case and one for your high school coach.

Please do not confuse... The 22nd Annual NHSCA Senior Nationals with any other event. The 2010 Senior Nationals were broadcast on ESPN360 live and a 30-minute highlight show that aired on ESPN U. The 2011 Senior Nationals already has commitments for a nationally televised! All 28 mats will also be webcast live via the High School Television Network.

I notice that above it mentions if you do not meet criteria you can petition in, what is the liklihood of getting in? Have we had Kansas kids do that and be granted the chance to wrestle?

Yes, there has been a few occasions over the years where a Kansas wrestler petitioned for entry! One time I recall a 2-time 3rd placer was admitted.

I don't think they are very selective. If you can pay, they will let you wrestle.

Sadly, the USA Folkstyle Nationals are the same weekend this year. I hate it when two great events cannot work together. This will hurt both tournaments.

Can you price it with and without airfare? I can get Ryne's ticket on my own and his transportation to the hotel if you let me know what hotel you are using. The more kids you put on one plane the higher the per ticket cost is. Airline ticket pricing is scaled based on occupancy.
