152 lbs.

I wasn't able to setup to do all of the finals. I hope others will post theirs under this topic!

What a tease! Appreciate the 152lb match but this is false advertising! Please add the matches if you have them.

Is Cokeley being recuited as a 49 pounder?

By the way, back points at the 4:31-4:34 mark. Not a judgement call, near fall criteria was met and held for at least two seconds. Where was the conference between asst and lead official?

I agree- back points clearly should have been awarded to Cokeley at 4:34. However, if this kid is to wrestle at a D1 level he needs to learn that being 'on your feet' for takedowns does not mean crawling around on your knees for most of the period. He has the talent and skill to go far and should not be afraid to be more aggressive on his feet.

I thought they were back points at 4 31 also.

I thought going to a knee neutralized the other wrestlers offense well.

As far as D1 wrestlers going off their knees view Allan Waters- Missouri he has a record of about 35-2(or close to that) and is ranked in the top 5-10 in the nation.

Ryne can adapt his style of wrestling to fit what the match dictates. I'm not a fan of the knee on the mat either, but I do know his wrestling knowledge and experience is high enough that he is going to choose what style he wrestles during the match that he feels he can win with. There is a considerable height difference in this match, and that technique is obviously what Ryne elected to use to neutralize Scanlons stature/build. The result was a "W" which is what mattered the most.

Agreed. He clearly has shown the adaptability to adjust and Scanlon is a physical specimen. But, sometimes being too defensive keeps the scores way to close and the better wrestler can end up getting a bad call or whatever. I just think Cokeley has the skills to more than just win but to 'dominate'.

Anklepick,
I think you mistake aggressiveness for domination. Cokeley dominated the match. He was never out of position, Scanlon never came close to scoring and in all phases, top, bottom and neutral, Ryne dictated the action and the flow. This was domination.

Look at Cody Brewer's match- he got taken down and then went on to establish domination but he did not control the whole match and college coaches would really stress the importance of setting the tone and the pace of the match from the get go.

I think it would serve you well to watch the NCAA finals and more college matches before you decide what a D1 college match is all about.

DOMINATION? 1-0 WHEN TIME RAN OUT AND NO TAKE DOWN SCORED BY THE DOMINATING WRESTLER. I THINK YOU ARE CONFUSED DOC. MORE LIKE A SMART WRESTLED MATCH. YOU SHOULD PROBABLY WATCH THE VIDEO AGAIN. I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD MATCH AND DON'T REALLY CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, GREAT JOB DILLON.

PROUD DAD,

DANNY SCANLON

Dillon did a great job- he positioned himself to win the match. He neutralized Ryne on his feet and really stayed in great position. It was like a chess match between two outstanding kids and athletes.
My point was mainly in opposition of ankle pick that you can have a great match that is low-scoring. Dillon will have many more exciting matches and wins to come.

If you watch the assistant official he shakes his head no, agreeing with the head official. I don't think a conference would have changed anything. That's a call, that at the college level rewards 2, but at the high school level you just don't get. I have had both officials and think they do a fine job.

i think this was a good match wrestled by both

i think both wrestled good on their feet to neutralize the other

i think if you are comparing the scoring to D1 give cokeley +1 for riding time.
