Any info on this regional: list of wrestlers, brackets, wrestler stats, comparative stats, projections, discussion, etc. Also, do not see a link/website to it.

All other regionals seem to be well coveredith tons of info.

Disregard my topic and inquiry on the "Seaman 5A Regional"

Wasn't trying to be short, just wasn't at a place where I could comment further. Here's what I got, but this is anything but official....
103 5 wrestlers. None of them are ranked.
112 5 wrestlers and only Keller (#3 5A) is ranked.
119 5 wrestlers and only Pursel (#1 5A) is ranked.
125 I show a full bracket with no ranked wrestlers.
130 7 wrestlers with only Kmiec ranked (#2 5A).
135 5 wrestlers with no ranked wrestlers.
140 5 wrestlers with only Schreiner (#1 5A) ranked.
145 5 wrestlers with Blew (#3 5A) and Guillen (#2 5A) ranked.
152 5 wrestlers with Scanlon (#2 5A) ranked.
160 4 wrestlers with Willis (#6 5A) ranked.
171 6 wrestlers with Baughman (#2 5A) and Meck (#3 5A) ranked.
189 6 wrestlers with Lockhart (#1 5A) ranked.
215 Full bracket with Flanagan (#6 5A) ranked.
285 6 wrestlers with Holly (#2 5A) ranked.

Many other notable wrestlers. Several wrestlers that have been ranked and fallen out of rankings along the way as well. I hope I didn't butcher the names or leave anybody out. This was my research so I am sure it is flawed. Please feel free to correct me or add the names of the noteable wrestlers that I have left out. This is strictly just the ranked wrestlers according to the latest rankings.

...and those weights mean that in 8 brackets someone won't even win a match, yet they will go to state! Are the "larger schools" more of basketball communities?

Not sure if they are bb schools are not....but only three teams in that regional have a tradition of wrestling success. Lansing, Sh Heights, Seaman. The other are trying.

In a five man bracket, still have to win a match to get 4th place.

The two KCKS and Topeka West schools will have short rosters. Doubt if any of the teams come filled--unless the coaches fill with JVs. In 16 years don't think I have seen Lansing with a full, true varsity roster over a couple of times. Don't know about SH and Seaman--but doubt if they are full.

Two years ago the other KC area 5A regional qualified wrestlers to state who did not have a win at region. I think that regional (at Mill Valley this year) may be a little deeper due to BV going down from 6A. But the two KCKS HS will be short, Meige will be short, BV SW will probably be short, and the others will each have a few opens. Tough to get a full roster where ever you are--not enough students out west, too many competing activities in the bigger schools.^

If the 1 seed loses to the 4 or 5 seed second round he has a straight shot to 3 or 4th place if he loses he goes to state without winning a match. Yea and we dont need to combine 5a and 6a

Lucas,

Rather than 5a and 6a combine why don't the smaller school districts combine so they can be large enough to be a 5a or 6a school. That solves the "regionals" issue you care deeply about and it saves the tax payers a whole boatload of money!

(Just had to try and beat Cokeley to the school district consolidation punch)

Richard Bennet for President.

Shucks, I have contemplated starting a pool at the Ark City Regional tomorrow for the airplane ticket as I feel very safe with a prediction of a first period fall by my friend Chad.

Mr. Bennet, I will see you tomorrow at the Regional Tournament.

Purple dad, I wrestled for Abilene Kansas. My dad was an Award winning Kansas High School Coach for 25 years. My Mom was a wrestling Cheerleader in Russell. All three of my lil brothers wrestled for the state of Kansas. I wrestled in college at LCC in Parsons KANSAS. I have two team state championships in wrestling and one in Football and a 3rd place medal. I might not live in Kansas anymore but I am very much a former Kansas wrestler. Just another upset Ark City fan that cant handle the truth.

Richard the only Idiocy I can see is all of you fools that think it is ok to have a regional half full of kids with Losing records. I did indeed graduate from Abilene High School. DICK.... I AM STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO POST ACTUAL KIDS THAT ARE COMPETING IN ARK CITY THIS WEEKEND.

Start your pool, Ill go two matches YOU can be the second one. I dont get on here and call people names when they prove me wrong. Id bet money im smarter than all of you.(I have been to ark city the kid at dairy queen told my dad in a forest gump voice "I dont know how to make a blizzaaaaaard"
No better yet I will go three matches one with lil Beeson and the other two with both DICKS, Dick Slayer and Dick Bennet

O and I am still waiting for proof that 5a wrestles better kids than 4a. Cuz seems to me you are half full of kids with single digit wins.

This regional is prime example why the 5a & 6a coaches have been trying to make a change and have two 16 team regionals and qualify the top 8 from each region.

As yet no movement.

Tonight I wondered why KSHSAA wouldn't take the next 64 schools WITH wrestling to make up 4A instead of creating four byes in our regionals?? Probably makes too much sense...

Ark City does not have a Dairy Queen.

You have to show up for the first to wrestle the 2nd.

Getting quite a list...if I remember right you challenged Head Up and another guy last year also. Better be careful or you will have to drag this out over two days, can't have more than 5 matches in a day. grin

Shawn, what if Will took all the land he ownes in Western Kansas, and divided it up in 160 acre homesteads and let the kids who live out there farm it rent free, the population in Western Kansas might increase to the point where there might be a few 5 and 6 A schools out there.

But, you know once alot of schools in 5A obviously do not have anywhere near full teams. But, we had 21 teams at our regional, and 1 school w/ a full team. Sad. This is what the higher ups need to be focusing on.

Contrarian: I SO disagree with you on larger schools with too many competing activities to field a full team.. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You have more students so yes more activities but overall more students to field a team.

I maintain students have changed in the past few years and not for the better when dealing with competition. They do NOT want to be "on stage" and only rely on him or herself.

A good wrestling team can be built in any school, it is called tradition.. yes you have some up and down years and at the same time there is SUCCESS..

Wrestling is a very difficult sport and our society has let our students not experince competition as well as we should. SEEMS EVERYONE MUST GET A RIBBON OR MEDAL OR PRIZE when they are younger so the can "feel good" about competing..

Ok off the soap box.. but a larger school has more kids to chose from.. thus the potential for a GREAT team.. smaller schools do not have that.. but they build from what they have.

... 5 and 6 A regionals: this really makes me sad to see that over half the wrestlers from 5 and 6 A make it to state.. If they only have an 8 man bracket at Regionals, why not only make it an 8 man bracket at state? Send the top 2 on from each regional with a wrestle back for a true 2nd. Like I said, if they have smaller regionals, why not smaller state too?

Just some thoughts.

Old wrestlers never die, they just get better smile
