Holton team wins top honors at the 2011 TOP City Summer Wrestling LeagueThe inaugural season of the TOP City Summer Wrestling League concluded on Thursday night in the Seaman Middle School gymnasium. Team honors were won by a group from Holton High School under the team name “Fired Up.” The following eight individuals were named to the All-League Team; Andrew Rieschick, Lane Lassiter, and Hunter Price from Holton, Clayton Himple from Tonganoxie, Khamin Crow from Silver Lake, Nathan Stanley from Seaman, Kyle Wilson from Wamego, and Tanner Ogden from Royal Valley.
Six individuals went undefeated during the league. Ogden wrestled in nineteen matches during the competition, which was held on four consecutive Thursdays in June.
The TOP City Summer Wrestling League was open to wrestlers entering grades 8-12. Nearly fifty individuals from eight area schools participated. Area wrestlers on college rosters also wrestled in exhibition matches during each night of competition.
The league served as an opportunity for area wrestlers to develop their skills and compete against quality competition in the off-season.
The league also served as preparation for the upcoming Sunflower State Games competition, which will be held at Seaman High School on July 9th. Registration is due by July 5th and can be completed through the websit
