Total speculation....but with OU coach retiring and new one on the way in......could be there was a comfort level issue.

Did not know you continued to be scouted by other programs once you have started your college career ?

I think he means scouting as opposing teams scout their competition.

Nebraska is an odd move, especially when you look from 2010 season to 2011. Of 27 guys in 2010 about 50% didn't come back, or were not on final roster for 2011.

I have no info at all concerning this situation but another factor to consider is that wrestling at Nebraska now gives a wrestler the opportunity to compete in the largest wrestling conference......the Big Ten. Big 12 is going to only have 4 teams that wrestle.

I do find it a little bit of a strange move, but as far as kids not staying with the Nebraska program, I don't think that you should not look too much into that. I know everyone coach is going to have a few problems with recruits or teams, but it seems like that was just a group that did not adjust too well to D1 athletics. Sometimes you will have a stellar recruiting class and other times you will not. I do with Tyler would have given Coach Cody a chance. He is one of the real good guys in our sport. He is going to do great things at OU and I'm very excited to see what he can do with a very well established program. He took American from nothing and made them very good.

I know Sammy coached at Nebraska before he went to OU. Bet him and Mad Dog are still buds. Bryan Snyder is probably one of top assistant coaches around.

I was surprised by this decision at this stage in Tyler's career. One thing about the Big Ten is that he will probably be on TV more.

Released to wrestle right away? If not he still can use RS plus 2. Heck he can Olympic RS, RS and do 2 if you want to go for a stretch.

I think Cody still needs to sign off on waiver release to Nebraska. Could be wrong but in order to compete the following year you need a transfer release as well as waiver release.

Any word on Henson to Nebraska? What happens to current coaches at Nebraska if Henson is in the mix?

I heard that OU is giving him a full release and that he intends to take an Olympic RS to train with Burroughs who will be remaining in Lincoln. Henson is rumored to be headed to Nebraska as well so perhaps Mark Manning took a page out of Larry Brown's recruiting manual when he hired Ed Manning as an asst and got Danny Manning...

The more experience the better for each young man - wrestlers are a bread unlike any other. They are students of the game and when they stop learning they have to put themselves in a better place to achieve their goals.

Just saw this on the Nebraska forum:

Tyler Caldwell will train with U.S. wrestling team

BY JOANNA CHADWICK
The Wichita Eagle

The past few months have been about change for Tyler Caldwell, a Goddard graduate.

In March, the Oklahoma sophomore was the 165-pound runnerup at the NCAA wrestling championships, losing to Nebraska senior Jordan Burroughs, a two-time national champion.

In May, Caldwell, a two-time All-American, chose to transfer to Nebraska after a coaching change at Oklahoma.

And last week at the U.S. World Team Trials in Oklahoma City, Caldwell finished in the top eight at 163 pounds. Because of that finish, he will train with the U.S. Olympic team and receive a college redshirt year.

"I'll get to train with Jordan all year while he's getting ready for the Olympics, and I'll compete overseas," Caldwell said."... I'll get to wrestle world-class guys, and I hope to have it pay off."

Caldwell lost to Burroughs three times last season, although Caldwell nearly beat him in the Big 12 finals two weeks before the NCAA finals.

The two have forged a friendship and will live together for the next year.

On May 12, Burroughs (@alliseeisgold) sent a Twitter message regarding Caldwell's transfer —"Welcoming Tyler Caldwell to the Huskers ... A future 2x national champ!"

Caldwell will head to Nebraska for his junior season in the fall of 2012. But the idea of competing in the Olympics is what Caldwell, a four-time state champion at Goddard, is focused on now.

Wrestling in the Olympics "is my ultimate goal," he said.
"It wasn't my plan, but then I went to the trials to get experience, and I did well, so I get to go with the team."
Caldwell is unsure of his exact schedule, but in July he will be in Colorado Springs for the world team camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. After the camp, the team will go to Cuba for a tournament.

Currently he's earning money by working at wrestling camps. He was at a camp in Chanute earlier in the week and will do other camps in Kansas, Missouri, Washington and California.

While his travel and training will be paid for while with the Olympic team, he must pay for rent and other living expenses to maintain his amateurism.

"You have to sacrifice," Caldwell said. "I'll be busy, but it will be fun."

Agreed Mr. Hurla. And, iron will sharpen iron. As Mr. T use to say, "I pity the fool that has to wrestle Tyler after he has spent a year or two rolling around with Jordan."

Man, that dude (Jordan) is LIGHTENING!

I hope he can bring home Gold!
