Just to get some conversations going. Let me know who you think is the best in KS in these categories....(I stole this from a article on College I read).

Hardest to take down...?
Best Scrambler....?
Best wrestler on top...?
Best Pinner....?
Best Funk....?
Biggest Motor....?
Best on his feet...?
Toughest warrior/Grinder?
Any others...?

Here is my stab at it.
Hardest to take down-Bontz
Best Scrambler-Stokes
Best wrestler on top-Weigel or Dylan Schumacher
Best Pinner-Kmiec is gone so..Matt Reed
Best Funk-Penka is gone so...Reece Conklin-Wright
Biggest Motor-Bryce Shoemaker or Brogan Humphrey
Best on his feet-Conklin-Wright.
Toughest warrior/Grinder-Blackwell

Your thoughts? who am I missing?

I know you haven't seen Konnor wrestle for a while, but every year he has 4 or 5 matches where the other kid takes injury time to catch thier breath. He is definently in the running for biggest motor or maybe longest motor

Best Funk could either be Bryant Guillen of Seaman, or any Shawnee Heights wrestler!

Best on his feet-Conklin-Wright

This one will be hard to argue. As far as Bryce Shoemaker, he has been revving that motor since the first time I saw him wrestle, and that was in the U8 55lb Sub-Districts back in 2004 when my son had to go up against him for the first time. It was like watching a Ferrari race a Volkswagen Rabbit.

One you might consider adding to your list, which I think is very important in wrestling:

Biggest Heart...?

Biggest Motor--Lambotte from Rossville. I only saw him wrestle at state but that kid has an increadible motor. He seems to be a very well conditioned athlete

The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital.

Agree with Bryce Shoemaker having phenomenal motor, watched him at Basehor. Watched Konner Kriss also throughout kid's and his victory over Johnson at State on TV as well, impressive to say the least. Ben Randolph also has crazy cardio, a true wind up, watched him at Basehor and State.
But my vote for biggest motor goes to Lincoln Lemon of Goddard. Goes from wrestling into track, track into wrestling, wrestling into cross country, cross country into wrestling. State qualifier and all-league in all three, unbelievable motor/conditioning. His sudden death OT victory over Colt McElroy (also a wind up) at State was epic. Lemon beat Randolph in quarters as well.

I gotta say the Lemon vs. McElroy match at state was the most entertaining match I watched all year. Non-stop action, very close, several scrambles. I had no stake in the match, but Bo and I watched every second and could not look away. After watching thousand of matches over the years, there are not many that I don't have a rooting interest that are that compelling. Lincoln did have a huge motor!

I heard the same about Konner Kriss in his win over Johnson. Lombotte at the Bobcat was very impressive with his motor and Shoemaker is constant action. All very good kids.

Great conversation. Gets me excited for the year already!

Hardest to take down...? Gotta give it to Sam Son. Rarely does anyone get in on his legs.
Best Scrambler....? Bo Purcel. If you think you have him taken down well, think again.
Best wrestler on top..? Dylan Schumacher. The only person I have seen ride better than him is Taylor Moeder.
Best Pinner....? Matt Reed. In the Wichita Heights wrestling room there is a saying... "If hes gotta neck then he can be headlocked." -Chase Nelson
Best Funk....? Kansas Doesn't have a wrestler that is "funky" in the sense that Ben Askren is but, if I had to choose one it would have to go to T.J. Stokes. He takes after his brother thats for sure.
Biggest Motor....? Tagen Lambotte. You cannot deny this one at all. His brother Cody preaches that Iowa Style night and day.
Best on his feet...? Zac Gentzler. He has the most variety of takedowns in the state, handsdown.
Toughest warrior/Grinder? Dustin Williams. He doesn't stop wrestling till the ref blows the whistle which frustrates a lot of his opponents.

In terms of best funk, my son says Calvin Ochs and Andrew Denning both fit this category.

I may be a bit bias for the Hays kids, but Preston Weigel or Dylan Schumacher for toughest on top, either one of these are in the running, I have not seen many people stop the dreaded tilt from Weigel, and Schumacher makes more kids "squeel" or sometimes even "squeek" on bottom.

And as for Funk Ochs is pretty Funky.

One would have to watch TJ wrestle a lot to really appreciate his funk. Taking nothing away from the other kids mentioned but I don't know if anyone I have seen can compare (other than his older brother).
