At Bobcat Reese will see:
Luke Henes
Dakota Leach

At Silver Lake:
Trey Franka

At State:
Bryce Morgan
Jake Goldenstein

That I believe and congrats to Dakota.

Since the Emporia results haven't been recorded here, Dakota Leach soundly beat Trey Franka 5-2 in the finals of 106.

There is no little game. Give me criteria and I will change the rankings.

Smokey(Rankings Don't Matter) Cabin,

Give it a rest. What does it matter??? The Bobcat is two weeks from now. Luke, Reese, Dakota, and some top out of state talent will be there. Perhaps you will get a match up. If not then we will just have to use what is out there. Reese has the last win over Luke and Morgan so that matters until it changes. (Be happy that Luke is ranked over Parker Howell even though Parker has the last win.) How in the world can you say you know anything about wrestling and then say that HEAD TO HEAD doesn't matter more than any other criteria??? You are a great guy but you are sounding like a moron during this stream.

I would believe Dakota a number 1 and deserving. But their is your "common" opponent between Dakota and Luke in Stone from last years state tournament. Both Henes and Dakota have grown in to the weight and I look forward to watching these guys develop.

Leach has also beaten Stone this year at Ark City. Morgan has 2 head to head wins over Leach from last year.

I don't think head to head with Dakota losing to Stone last year should have any bearing on him being ranked number 1 this year at this time. Henes had 2 wins over Stone 1 last year and 1 this year. What is happening here and now.

I am saying the same thing you guys were saying about Hensley and Dulgarian. They had no high school history but should be seeded in front of guys that placed 2nd in state. And I agree with that even though their was no head-to-head.

BTW, the critieria is MORGAN beat Leach twice last year, not Stone.

So are you saying YOU know that one of these 106 pounders is better than the other without them wrestling? I think Reese could beat them all but I also KNOW that he could lose to any one of them. These wrestlers are all very close.

Everyone KNEW and AGREED that Zak and Isaac were the two best in the bracket. It worked out.

I don't think anyone KNOWS, absent some more matches, how these rankings REALLY should be. They are just the result of the best data available at this time. Find another axe to grind.

Head to Head 9 to 11 months ago is not really what is going on now.

What do you have that is better? Your instinct? You are a LONG, LONG WAY from being a 106 pounder.

I think he's still an amateur. Last I heard no one has been paying him for it... yet.

Can we keep Luke out of this discussion.

One thing I've learned about high school wrestling this time around is that there is way too much importance put on wins, losses and rankings in wrestling. Don't get me wrong, I still will be in the stands cheering loudly for Luke (and Aquinas), nervous as heck and I naturally want him to win, but it's just a wrestling match. Wrestling doesn't define who he is....

I'm much more concerned about his academic class rank...that opens college doors!

Well said Momma Henes!

These are Chiefs rankings so he can put whoever he wants where ever he wants. I think he does due diligence when he has all the info needed.

These rankings have NO merit on who is better on any given day. In the end there are just PAPER.

I think that if you asked 16 others from across the state to put in their input and had a "true" representation of the state, the ranking would be close to what they are now.

to be honest i would hate to have a "BSC" type ranking system. I am thankful that in wrestling a W is a W, and don't get confused in a popularity contest.

Smokey/ Chief both have good reasons why their favorite should be ranked higher. Both make some sense, both have some pretty thin arguments in my book. SOOOOOOOOOO why don't we settle it on the mat??? Chief vs. Smokey winner gets to rank 106 lb weight class. I will referee, and Cokeley can "grade" my abilities. I want Richard Salyer and Sportfan at the scores table. Let's do this on New Year's Day, 11am start, at a location TBD!

HEADUP

How long are the periods? Any timeouts or rest periods?
Do we have to weighin in singlets? Greco, Freestyle and/or Folkstyle? I am in better shape for a game of cards.

I would like to say a couple of things here:

Skylar Olson is my son and is still deep in the learning curve being newer to wrestling. He has had some good matches beating Landon Scott (MV) last year and losing 3-2 to Logan Mueller this year. But he has lost some matches due to lack of experience and knoweldge.

With that stated, Luke Henes is a class act. He has been polite and humble. Mom Henes you should be proud. He has talked with both me and Skylar sharing his insights about wrestling and learning. He is a good kid and I know that Skylar respects him a lot. While wrestling doesn't define who is....what he does defines his character and he has deomonstrated nothing but excellent character.

Mr. Cokeley was very helpful to me last season when I was asking questions about wrestling and getting additional coaching for Skylar in the off-season. While I have not met Reece personally, I have seen him wreslte and he has a reputation of being a great kid.

Both kids have had to work their butts off to get where they are and I know that Skylar and I both have talked about what he needs to do to emulate these fine wrestlers. Rankings are awesome and can be both motivating and intimidating. At the end of the day to be viewed by other wrestlers as someone you would like to emulate should be worth much more than any ranking.

Hopefully the heat of rankings will simmer a bit so that we can truly enjoy the talent these two young men have and let them enjoy a sport that requires dedication, focus, sacrifice, and bearing.

I know Skylar and I both enjoy watching these guys wrestle and as representatives from Catholic schools I know others are watching and evaluating their character and those around them at all times.

One of the great things about this is that they are both great wrestlers and I am sure that they are both better because of each other. Having someone who pushes you is a good thing.

Congrats to both of them, good luck to both, and I know Skylar is working hard because they are too.

It is really a shame that individual parents have to supply results of school sponsored tournaments! Back in the day the host school had that responsibility and did it.

Emporia Invitational: 113 lbs.
1st: Aaron Freislinger- Washburn Rural
2nd: Jacob Wilgers- Maize
3rd: Jeremiah Jones- Pittsburg
4th: Garrett Whitson- Emporia
