Cal Poly Holds Annual Green vs. Gold Intrasquad Dual Meet
-- Cal Poly Wrestling --
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Travis Rasmussen and Travis Gallegos earned major decisions to help the Green team, coached by Mitch Monteiro, to a 14-9 victory over the Gold squad, led by Lennis Cowell, in the Cal Poly wrestling team's annual intrasquad dual meet Sunday afternoon inside Mott Gym.
Rasmussen (pictured at right) posted a 10-1 major decision over Elijah Jackson at 157 pounds while Gallegos, wrestling in an exhibition match, recorded a 12-0 major decision over Paul Woodman at 165.
Other winners for the Green squad included Britain Longmire with an 8-2 decision over Cody Tow at 125 and Damien Arredondo with an 8-2 win over Luke McDonald at 149.
The three Mustangs earning wins for the Gold squad were Brandan Rocha at 133, Sean Dougherty at 184 and Atticus Disney at 285.
Rocha was a 12-6 winner over Chris Calcagno while Dougherty outlasted Derrick Hawkins 9-7. In the final bout, Disney scored a late takedown and riding time to beat Kelan Bragg 8-4.
No matches were held at 141, 174 and 197 due in part to the fact that new head coach Brendan Buckley and four of his wrestlers who competed in the Cowboy Open at the University of Wyoming on Saturday were stranded in Denver on Sunday on the trip home due to weather.
Cal Poly will visit Cal State Bakersfield on Friday for a Pacific-12 Conference dual meet at 7 p.m. in the Icardo Center.
