WICHITA, Kan. - Newman University head wrestling coach Ryan Smith has added three high school standouts to the roster for the 2012 season. Coach Smith announced Thursday that Hashem Omari, Reece Wright- Conklin, and Miles Johns have all signed national letters of intent to wrestle for the Jets.

Hashem Omari (Gladstone, Mo. - Oak Park HS)
Omari will join the Jets after finishing his career at Oak Park High School. where he wrestles at 195 lbs. for the Northmen. Entering his senior year with coach Tim Rupp, Omari has accumulated 115 high school wins and is expected to be ranked No. 1 in the state of Missouri. Wrestling USA Magazine has ranked Omari No. 10 in the nation at 220 lbs.. He has also earned honorable mention recognition in WIN Magazine's Fun in the Sun Wrestling Team, which ranks wrestlers' national summer resumes. As a junior Omari posted a 49-1 record and finished third in the Missouri state tournament. He also won tournaments at Basehor-Linwood, The 50th Annual William "Red" Schmidt Tournament in Granite City, Ill. and the 2010 Kansas City Wrestling Classic where he beat nationally-ranked wrestlers Justin Herberlie and Nick Cobb. As a high school wrestler Omari has been a three-time state qualifier, two-time state placer and a state finalist. In addition to his high school wrestling resume, Omari has placed in his lone trips to the ASICS Cadet Freestyle Nationals in Akron, Ohio and the Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D..

Reece Wright-Conklin (Lawrence, Kan. - Lawrence HS)
Wright-Conklin will come to Newman after completing his senior season for coach Patrick Naughton at Lawrence High School. His team has been ranked No. 1 in the preseason Kansas 6A polls and Reese has been ranked the preseason No.1 wrestler at 182 lbs in the state of Kansas. Wright-Conklin has also been ranked No. 8 in the nation at 182 lbs. by Wrestling USA Magazine, No. 14 in the nation at 170 lbs. by The Open Mat and No. 20 in the nation at 171 lbs. by Intermat Wrestling Rankings. As a junior Wright-Conklin posted a 37-0 record and claimed his second Kansas 6A State Championship along with winning the Newton Tournament of Champions. As a high school wrestler Wright-Conklin is a three-time state placer, two-time state champion and has a high school record of 98-6.

Miles Johns (Newton, Kan. - Newton HS)
Miles Johns will join the Jets after finishing his senior season at Newton High School where he is a team captain. As a high school wrestler Johns is a four-year varsity wrestler, three-time state qualifier and a Kansas 5A State Runner-up. He has placed at the Folkstyle Kids State Championships three times and the Brute Addidas Nationals post-season tournament twice, taking second one year and winning the tournament in 2010. Johns started his senior year by placing fourth at the pre-season Blue Chip Fall Brawl tournament and is currently ranked No.1 in Kansas 5A at 138 lbs.

Congrats to all three wrestlers but a huge pat on the back and congrats to our hometown wrestler Reece Wright-Conklin!!!! Good Job Reece!!! Looks like Newman signed a pretty tough group.

I totally agree! I have always admired the heart of Reese and Miles. Being from Kansas, I don't know the Mizzu kid at all, but from his resume' he seems to be a good addition to the program. An let not forget last years 154lb recruite now at Newman from Andale. Looks like Newman is trying to do BIG THINGS! Good job Coach Ryan, your putting together a D1 caliber program for Newman University. I hope they reconize it! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU GUYS, BRAINS AND TALENT TOO! THAT'S A DEADLY COMBINATION.

This was announced earlier in the year. Three excellent signings for Newman University. Wright-Conklin and Johns are two very accomplished Kansas wrestlers. Omari from the Kansas City MO area is one the top 220 wrestlers in the nation.
