Are these supposed to be even pools? Or like a A and B pool? Because from the outside looking in the Purple pool is loaded.

I 2nd that with the Purple Pool being loaded. Every team in it ranked in the top 5 of their clasification. And in the Gold Pool, only Emporia ranked in their clasification and that is 8th in 5a

I was not trying to be sarcastic, just a genuine question. At the Park Hill, MO HS duals for example they have a "elite" pool and a "varsity" pool. They put all the best teams in a elite pool and they beat the hell out of each other. Then the teams that might not be as strong are equally matched in a pool as well. There is not cross bracketing out of the pools.

If that is the case here that is great. If these are supposed to be two even pools to a semi-final and final out of the pools, somebody got hosed.

Surely this is an A and B pool. Otherwise it was not seeded.

I was also wondering how the teams were selected. My first thought was that they might go off of the previous years placing in the tournament, but then the 1st,2nd,3rd and 5th place teams from the tournament last year are in the same pool. Oh well looking forward to some quality competition. Should be some good possible mathcups.

I'm pretty sure it is set up to be a Small School v. Big School Dual Tournament in the beginning. However, I think Coach Shelton looked at some dual schedules and realized some teams will already dual each other in the near future and tried to accommodate for that.

Yes, One pool is loaded but it is what it is. I do remember a team last year that Went 4-1 and beat the team that ended up winning the tournament and got 5th place wink It's all good! It's December and it's going to be for a good time, good talk, and some good ole fashion rasslin' smile

God Bless everybody and their safe travel and Health this week-end!

We try to keep schools in the same classification together as much as possible. We also look at schedules and try to separate teams that wrestle each other more than once. In the past we have tried to seed the tournament but never had much success with it being the first weekend of the season.

This season was a little different because we added Goddard to the tournament and they are now in our league. We wrestle Goddard and Andover Central in league duals over the next two weeks. We kept all the other 5A schools in the same pool and both 6A schools in the same pool. The 4A schools were drawn randomly and placed into pools that way.

Another change we made for this year’s tournament is starting the duals in each round based on random draw. We will roll a 14 sided die in the coaches meeting to determine the starting weight of the first round. At the conclusion of each round, the winning coach of the last dual to finish will roll the same die to determine the starting weight of the next round. We will eliminate the last 5 weights wrestled because of time considerations and start with one of the other nine weights. We will put 10 minutes on the clock and start the next round when that time is up. Hopefully, this will make the tournament a little bit more fan friendly and keep people interested.

Well I am definitely not being sarcastic, I am being serious as all get out. Those pools are a load of cowkaka. Leave it to Shelton to pull that.
As for small vs. big, um.....not.
As for dual/future dual accommodations, well, maybe VC should just invite different teams that won't have that "conflict of interest". It should be seeded correctly just like anything else.
I do agree "it is what it is" and there will be some good wrestling and good times because wrestling = good times, no matter what.
And sure, God Bless Everyone!

Ok, well thanks for the explanation Coach Shelton but my opinion is that it should be seeded correctly regardless of who wrestles who whenever because when the paper comes out with the whole 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc, I want it to be a true reflection of the quality of the teams and I am sure that I am not alone on that. I do realize that a lot of people don't care about "appropriate seeding" because they just want to see good wrestling because wrestling = good times.
It is VC's tournament I know, and I know that I don't have to come if I don't like it, but I will definitely come because wrestling = good times and Coach Shelton = good times.
Now as for the whole die, draw, weight, weight elimination thing, I say, what? So I take it that means a kid might not get the same amount of matches that he would have otherwise. If that is the case, I'm not really kosher on that because > wrestling = > good times.

why wouldn't a wrestler get the same amount of matches? They are just starting at different weight classes. Sounds like a good idea to me.

I believe that the 5 weights that are being eliminated will be eliminated as a starting weight. They will not be taking the 5 weights out of the dual. Someone please correct me if i am wrong.

it is not clear in the explanation, but it would make sense to eliminate five weights from the staring weight. That would give ample time to recover. Say 220 is the end of one dual and it is drawn at the start of the next.

The older I get the better I was!

Ok, sorry about the confusion.
I just saw this

and thought maybe we were just trying to get done earlier than usual, in time for the Big 12 FB Championship, not that anyone would care about that because FB does not necessarily = good times, but wrestling does always = good times.
