Steve Mesa of Garden City I don't believe ever won the entire thing but finished 2nd twice...Steve was tough

Mesa was 3rd in 1990, 2nd in 1991, 2nd in 1992, 2nd in 1993. He was lightning quick and it was shocking when he lost in overtime in 1993 to a good wrestler from Topeka named Trembley who ended up winning 2 titles. He also lost to super wrestlers Clint Lopez and Bob Jaso. All matches were close with the exception of the Lopez match. In my opinion he was the best wrestler I know not to win a state title. He tore my teammate up and he was a state champ to go with a 2nd and 4th. Just seemed like to his credit that he always sought out the best competition.

How about Ark City's Colby Watters? Finished 2nd his first three years (to 4x Bo Pursel, Blaine Smith and 3x Jake Gentzler), then ran into the Michael Olsen buzzsaw as a senior before finishing 3rd.
