POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision of the TRC Sports Director, the Turner Wrestling Club Head Coach is a non-exempt position under FLSA, responsible for coaching, organizing, and scheduling the Turner Wrestling Club Program. This employee must possess excellent supervisory, organizational, coaching, and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Provide instruction to wrestlers using examples of positive thinking, positive attitudes, sportsmanship and respect for the athletes
 Encourage faithful attendance and full attention at practice sessions and tournaments
 Instruct each wrestler to strive to do their best to compete fairly and to improve their individual self during the season
 Convey good communication skills to TRC Staff, Turner Wrestling Club staff, wrestlers, and parents
 Offer constructive criticism and instruction, yet reinforce only acceptable behavior at practices and tournaments
 Be unbiased and treat each wrestler fair at all times
 Train and coach in a manner that will improve each youth as an athlete and a person
 Plan, organize, and assist with all functions pertaining to the Turner Wrestling Club program for the Turner Recreation Commission
 Schedule events; prepare weekly lesson plans which detail skills to be introduced, drills, exercises, instructing aid, etc. for open wrestlers and Turner Wrestling Club staff
 Assist in recruitment, selection, and training of volunteer coaches and officials
 Help supervise, direct, instruct, and schedule volunteer coaches
 Coach open/novice tournaments and document participation
 Communicate any accidents or incidents to the Turner Recreation Commission Sports Coordinator
 Attend and conduct all practices
 Attend all district, state USAW Coaches’ Meetings and TRC sponsored clinics
 Assist in resolving concerns and complaints from participants, subordinate staff, or the general public.
 Evaluate facilities with TRC Sports Director for potential hazards, inadequate equipment, etc. for the purpose of implementing and/or assisting in making modifications or recommendations that ensures the safety of the participants and public
 Promote clinics, camps, events, and programs offered in the Turner Community and surrounding area
 Perform other duties as assigned by the Turner Recreation Commission
 Schedule calendar of tournaments for club to participate
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
 Help organize public wrestling demonstrations
 Possess the ability to establish successful relationships with other wrestling clubs and wrestling professionals and use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making
 Network and research resources for programs including locations, instructors, transportation, etc.
 Organize and help with fundraising activities for the Turner Wrestling Club Program
 Maintain a variety of records (practice plans, schedules, participant information, etc.)
 Assist with collection of participant waiver forms and maintaining inventory of equipment and uniforms
 Coordinate with TRC Sports Director to reserve TUSD practice facilities
 Transport and install equipment as necessary
 Obey and comply with all Turner Recreation Commission ordinances and policies.
Turner Recreation Commission RN-09 Kids Club Wrestling Head Coach
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Minimum of 18 years of age; high school or college level wrestling experience preferred; knowledgeable in folkstyle/freestyle/ Greco Roman techniques
Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. A college degree or some coursework is preferred.
License/Certification: Employee must have a valid driver’s license. CPR, First Aid, Bronze Level Certification, and higher USA Wrestling Certifications required or must be able to obtain certification within three months of hire date. Relative licenses or certifications preferred.
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the sport of wrestling, ability to plan, lead, and coordinate practices and tournaments, understand and anticipate problems, and enforce TRC policies and procedures. This employee must have excellent coaching and organizational skills.
Problem Solving: Some independent problem solving is involved. This employee encounters problems with practice and tournament scheduling conflicts and public complaints.
Decision Making: Some independent decision making is involved. This employee coordinates decisions about planning practices and tournaments with the Turner Wrestling Club staff and TRC staff.
Supervision: This employee is subject to supervision by the Sports Director. Supervisory responsibilities over participants and volunteer coaches are required.
Financial Accountability: This employee is responsible for department equipment, and directing registration monies to TRC business office.

Personal Relations: Contact with the general public, Turner Wrestling Club Staff, participants, and TRC supervisory personnel. A clean and neat appearance is expected.
Core Values: This employee is expected to be honest, fair in his/her dealing with the public, Turner Wrestling Club Staff, participants, TRC staff and board members, and maintain a reputation that is above reproach.
