As you may have heard by now, USA Wrestling is excited to offer the High School Team Membership in Kansas this year. We hope you’re interested in taking advantage of this innovative program. The High School Team Membership means that for $300, all of the wrestlers on your high school team become member athletes of USA Wrestling and your high school team becomes a chartered club. With individual memberships, your wrestlers will be able to compete in all sanctioned USA Wrestling events until August 31, 2014, and they will also be provided with secondary sports accident insurance while practicing in chartered club practices and competing at any wrestling tournament (this even includes non-sanctioned events). This secondary sports accident insurance has $1,000,000 in coverage for each athlete per occurrence in the case an injury occurs. If you are interested, send an email to Kathy Juby ( kathyjuby@usawks.com) and she will send you instructions on what you need to do. Click here for the flyer.

Mike, have you heard anything about the $15 membership cards that USAWrestling is offering for just the Folkstyle season?

Chad, USAW has made restricted membership cards available in a handful of states for $15, rather than the $21 they charge for full membership cards. These cards do not have all of the features that their regular cards have. They are only offered in a few states; generally those who do not have a strong USAW membership base. Kansas is not included in that group, and I'm reluctant to try and push them to include us. While there is a $6 difference in the card fee, with the regular card we can tell our wrestlers that they are full members without restriction, and encourage them to take full advantage of that membership. USAW-Kansas charges $35 for each card, with $21 going to USAW. We retain the $14 difference in the state to support our wrestling activities. To see how we spend our funds, you can look at our financial statement at www.usawks.com/financials12.pdf.

One question: does this mean that our high schoolers can no longer technically wrestle for the club team? If possible I would like our high school guys to still be able to technically be a part of Topeka Blue Thunder.

The membership card that the high school wrestlers receive can be used even if they compete on a club team after the conclusion of the high school season. Their membership on the high school chartered team will not preclude them from competing for the club. KSHSAA rules must still be followed, of course, so they cannot wrestle for the club during the high school wrestling season.

Do all HS team member names need to be listed prior to December 13th. Or can they be added later in February of 2014.

This is a great deal. I am hoping that high school coaches take advantage of this offer.
