Is MAC going to host girls state again or is it going to get attached to 6 under state. There was talk about putting the two tournaments together? I saw there was only on girls tournament on the calender so far. Are any other clubs going to host a girls tournament? Thanks

Ark City will have a girls division with our Novice Division on Sunday December 15th if there is enough interest.

The Paola Open will have a girls division and hoping to see others offer it as well.

Lots of growth across the nation in this area, providing increasing gender specific opportunities will help it even more.

Mark - the USAWKS Girls state tourney was on Track last year. I believe the Park City classic had a good turnout as well. Will give you an idea of who's out there though our female membership exceeds the attendance of those quite a bit.

If anyone hosting a tournament is offering a girls division, please let me know and I will get the website updated.

I'm pretty excited! After Journey spent time with the girl wrestlers over at the Haysville wrestling club she wants to try it.

Mark,
Glad to hear your daughter is giving it a try. Female wrestling continues to be one of the fastest growing sports in the US, and more and more colleges are adding it. I have voiced my opinion about colleges needing to add womens wrestling for years. I have 2 nieces that wrestle here in KS and both have had good success within the girls division. And the girls state and national tournaments are cool to go see as at many of them they all warm up together, and build a cool bond.

Good Luck to Journey.

At the Middle School tournament in Manhattan last weekend there were several girls wrestling, usually we see a couple but there were at least 7 that I saw in 1 gym, didn't go to the other gym much. Wamego seem to have a heavy presence.

Mark, Good to hear your daughter is going to wrestle. The ladies of this sport need more ladies getting into the sport. I know Gardner-Edgerton put on a girls tournament with thier novice the last two years. U.S.G.W.A. has a girls tournament every year. MAC wrestling host that tournament. It is a good one also. Mark with the limited number of ladies who wrestle. Your daughter will have to wrestle up in age sometimes. I know my daughter was 6 and wrestled a couple of 10 year olds. I asked her and she wanted to wrestle girls. Just be prepared.

Beeson, Thanks for letting me know about Ark City. I will have to check with the boss. That is a pretty good drive for us.

Joe, Thanks for letting me know about Paola. We should be able to make that one.

Garden Plain will have a girls open Feb 2. We have had over 50 girls the past 2 years and hope to see even more this year.

Indy has had a number of girls wrestling the last several years. We have 2 or 3 girls in the 10U age group that are above 85 pound weight class. My daughter has wrestled for 6 years.

Beeson, it may just be me, but I would request the girls wrestle on Saturday. Hate to run over there twice, although my other wrestler is 6.

McPherson has the honor of again hosting the two girls state tournaments. The first (USGWA) will be February 23rd, the second (USAWKS) will be March 23rd. I will take care of the paperwork this weekend and hopefully get it on the schedule.

Hope to see all the young ladies at these.

Nickerson will have an Open/Novice and Girls Division on Sunday February 16th. Flier etc... should be up as soon as we get the paperwork in.
