You could prob narrow the field down to 32 or less by simply asking what teams want in the tournament. Let's face it, there's no point in putting teams in the tournament that have no chance and don't want to be fed to the wolves.

Or just use the regionals from the previous year.

Regional
5 and 6A
Fri five duals per team
Sat three duals to finish round robin, break into four team champ and consol bracket
Smaller classes
Fri six pools, add additional duals to get each team five
Sat split by pool finishes should allow five duals per team

State
Fri class pools (3 matches) split into pools by class finish top two from each class in one pool, bottom two in another pool. Two matches in these pools
Sat five duals per team

Problems: finding room for small class regionals unless you split the regional between different sites, but still call it one tournament.
Who is willing to let extra comp points fall because your team does not qualify for state

Advantage: twenty matches in two week for eight comp points

How are you going to pay for another state tournament with todays' money fight in Topeka over school funding.

Someone++ in the KS HS wrestling community is going to have to figure out what the community wants. Simply put, there are too many competing wants.

1. Status quo-no changes and adds.

2. Add a dual state tournament.

3. Reclassification of 6A/5A/4A.

4. One all-class one site state tournament
