I wasted a couple hours of my life tonight examining the possibilities of 321a ranked wrestlers meeting in the first round at state.

The KSHSAA doesn't draw regional pairings until conclusion of the events (they do so randomly) and anything can happen. These are not predictions; they are possibilities. I thought it'd be interesting to look into though, and added any pertinent information I had.

By Regional/Weight

Sabetha
106:
#3 Gfeller (RO) #4 Ostertag (ACCHS) #6 Leckner (WV)

3rd place "could" meet #2 Haun (FR) or #5 Butler (CG).

*Ostertag has beaten both Gfeller and Leckner this year.

Wakeeney
113:
#3 Stone (GREECO) #4 Rhoades (TMP) #5 Addington (NO)

3rd place "could" meet #2 Dultmeier (SL) or #6 Deters (MARY).

*Addington has a 6-0 decision over Rhoades, but lost to him 3-2 last meeting. Stone beat Rhoades 9-7. Deters has been decisioned 9-4 by Addington, but only 4-2 by Dultmeier.

Hoisington
120:
#2 Schottler (LY) #4 Salazar (STER) #6 Weller (SES)

3rd place "could" meet #1 Porsch (HX) or #3 Hensley (EL).

*Hensley has wrestled Porsch within three points and has beaten Schottler 8-2 and Weller 5-2.

Wakeeney
126:
#2 Migchelbrink (AT) #3 Juenemann (PB) #4 Rogers (SC) #5 Juenemann (OB)

4th place "could" meet #1 Schaefer (SL)

*Juenemann (PB) won 5-3 over Rogers in last matchup.

Sabetha
132:
#2 Bowen (ACCHS) #4 Garner (BLUE) #5 Howerton (SL) #6 Gentry (RO)

3rd and 4th place "could" meet #1 Ball (HO) and/or #3 Ragnoni (BENN).

*Howerton has as 6-5 victory over Gentry.

Douglass
138:
#1 Humphrey (FR) #4 Stalford (CV) #5 Melcher (HER)

3rd place "could" meet #2 Hager (NO) or #6 Murphy (OA)

*Murphy lost 6-3 to Hager two weeks ago.

Wakeeney
145:
#2 Dreher (OB) #3 Dusin (PB) #4 Tallent (NO) #6 Schoenthaler (TR)

4th place "could" meet #1 Tooley (SM).

*Dreher has pinned Tallent and beat Dusin 5-1. Dusin has beat Tallent 7-3, 3-2, 2-1, and 8-6.

**Unranked Stoll (OA) has been pinned by Schoenthaler, but has also beat him 11-9; he has wrestled Dreher and Tallent to 9-5 and 1-0 losses respectively.

Sabetha
152:
#1 Lambotte (RO) #3 Beck (CEN) #4 Wagoner (ACCHS)

3rd place "could" meet #2 Rogers (SC) or #6 Anderson (OB)

*Anderson's losses to Rogers have been 8-6 and 7-5.

Sabetha
170:
#2 Luellen (RO) #3 Birkinsha (ACCHS) #4 Baumgartner (SAB) #6 Fee (DONW)

4th place "could" meet #1 Weisner (PV).

*Luellen has lost 6-5 to Birkinsha, but has also beat him 5-3 and pinned him at the 5:59 mark? Birkinsha has 9-4 and 8-5 decisions over Baumgartner, who has defeated Fee 6-1.

Wakeeney
182:
#3 Mason (LEO) #4 Diederich (OB) #5 Wright (AT)

3rd place "could" meet #6 Smallwood (MV)

*Diederich has beaten Mason 7-3. Mason has pinned Wright, who has pinned Smallwood.

Hoisington
195:
#2 Urban (HO) #3 Clark (MN) #5 Martinez (SES)

3rd place "could" meet #6 Blow (ON).

Again, these are highly unlikely (and completely speculative) first round state matchups, but something I found would make following all the Regionals at once more interesting per weight class.

Not quite, but I did forget to attach 285...

Hoisington
285:
#1Berger (SYL) #3Helms (CHAP) #4McCurdy (LY) #5Boor (HO)

4th place "could" meet #2 Crick (SG) or #6 Leuthold (SAB)

*Boor has beaten Crick 2-0, but has been pinned by both Berger and McCurdy

It is highly unlikely there will be a first round matchup at state between ranked wrestlers because of their regional distribution.

Hoisington (2)
Sabetha (2)
Wakeeney (1)
Douglass (1)

If they wrestle to their rank, none of them would meet up with another. This is the same reason 220# was omitted. The ranked distribution in that weight class is:

Sabetha (2)
Wakeeney (2)
Douglass (2)

Same logic applies there. If they all get 1st and 2nd, they won't be first round pairings.
