I love looking at wrestling brackets. So many stories, so much passion, and pathos on display!

That first win is so important!

Only two wrestlers who lost in the first round made it all the way back to 3rd.

5A 113 Stephen Tujague SJA, 42-7, 10 forfeited his first match and wrestled all the way back for 3rd place. You may have lots of opinions of the rule, but this wrestlers’ response as a person “under authority” is to be commended.

The other wrestler was in 4A at 170. Warren Kropp Scott City, 24-4, 12 Made the best of a first round fall to Alex Son from Chanute.
On the backside he put a string of 5 victories in a row to claim 3rd place.
He deafeted Elston, MUL by fall ; Miller, DES 3-2; Bosley, AUG 8-6; Ogden, RV 6-3; Beat Hampton, SH 3-2 for third place. On a side note, Son never placed.

4th place:
195 5A
Caleb Ward LAN, 28-8, 11 lost to Mock of Newton by fall in the first round. He then Beat Waiasa, Liberal by fall, defeated Dugan BC 1-0; Pinned Lopex AND, and in Consolation Semi finals beat Harp, KAP 3-2
Ward lost to Echman Emp SV 3-1 placed 4th

The following made it back from a first round loss to claim 5th place

In 6A 160 LB Tyler Moulden 33-15, 11 from Olathe North lost in the first round to Service from DC by fall. Olathe North went 8-2 as a team that first round.
Moulden started the long road back beating Steele, LFS 3-0, Defeated Hartman, BV 3-0, Beat Samilton, WN Tech Fall Lost to McLeod, BVN 3-2 in consolation semi-finals
He wins 5th place with a Tech Fall over Service from DC. That is a turn around!

4A placers with first round loss.
120 Zach Miller ULY, 21-15, placed 5th
160 Curtis Rylant CLW, 38-5, 10 5th
170 Mason Baum HOL, 32-14, 11 placed 5th

321 A
Ten wrestlers in 321A overcame a first round loss to place. It is interesting that Norton had two athletes accomplish this feat!
106 Bacon HOXI, 23-12, 10 placed 6th
113 Tucker Rhoades TMP, 33-10, 9 placed 5th
126 Cannan Smith MINN, 21-12, 9 placed 5th
132 Toby Nickell NORT, 11-12, 12 placed 6th
152 Justin Wagner ACCH, 33-11, 12 Placed 5th
160 Tabor Erickson OBER, 30-15, 9 plaed 6th
182 Kyle Ames ONAG, 30-18, 11 placed 6th
195 Kolton Harting, NORT, 14-8, 12 placed 6th
220 Skyler Tebo Elli, 32-14, 12 Placed 5th
285Quade McCoy EUR, 28-10, 12 285 placed 5th

I am sorry if I missed someone!

I love to sport of wrestling! whether you went 0-2 or 4-0 you are part of something special that makes a difference in your life!

Mark

What makes the 3-2-1A accomplishment even more impressive is that due to the revised schedule (##%@* *%^%^!!) being used, there were NO consolation matches wrestled on Friday.

The 31 who lost in the first round on Friday (one bye in 106) had to wrestle FIVE times on Saturday to earn a medal. Therefore, ONE THIRD of the first round losers made it to the medal stand. IMO, this is quite a feat.
