You have just won a hard match. Your excited. Your opponent is not. Quit trying to hug him after the match. He shook your hand, that is all he is required to do. Quit trying to hug him. Act like you have won a tough match before. Quit trying to hug your opponent. I sure don't want anyone hugging me after a tough loss. Quit trying to hug your opponent. Be a good sport, shake hands, and walk off the mat. Quit trying to hug your opponent.

Ha that is great! I have 1 sometimes 2 kids that do that. 1 of them is usually on the losing side also. How they heck do you politely tell them to stop without breaching the “sportsmanship” clause they will come back with? For the record I 100% agree with you.

You don't do it politely. You explain that nobody wants a hug from the guy that just beat them. It is a poor sport to rub it in by hugging the guy you just beat. I tell my kids to not do it, it is a good way to get punched in the mouth if you do it to the wrong kid.

I would argue my kid was being assaulted and fought back. As we have learned from the board it is all in interpretation, even if it is wrong.

Some hugs can be a sign of ultimate respect and compassion.

I agree, totally different set of circumstances. This is not the norm and the loser is the one hugging not the winner.

I just think it is poor sportsmanship to try to hug a kid you have just beat. I only brought this up because I had a kid win and try to do it the other week and the loser was not having any part of it. I told my kid he was in the wrong and to not do it again.

I think the hugs after a match are an ultimate sign of respect. To me no athlete trains as hard as a great wrestler does, so win or lose that is showing respect to your competitors because you know how hard they trained to get there. You see it all the time in MMA with grown men. They beat each others faces in for 3 to 5 rounds and talk a lot of smack before hand, but when the final bell sounds everything changes you see that sign of respect and hug, because you know how hard it was for each to get there no matter who wins.

I like what the lady MMA fighter, Ronda Rousey, did. Refused to shake hands with her opponent after their fight, because she had to listen to all of the smack talk up to the fight, and wasn't going to hug someone that disrespected her. I loved it. How about we don't talk smack (except to Jerry Dale and Beeson) and respect our opponent before AND after the match. To me this type of behavior (talking smack before, then wanting to be friends after) is another example of the hypocrisy that exist in today's world......

I agree with both John and Doug. Here is the only thing I would say in response to John, let the loser initiate the hug not the winner. Especially if the winner only hugs when they win.

That was a very good point Beeson, April must have come up with it.

It is really easy to be huggie squeezie, and a nice guy, after you win. But can you be nice and show some class after you get your tail handed to you?

There are punks out there that pretend to be good people after the win, then when they lose, are complete psychopaths.

And there are also those punks out there that are pricks if they lose, and pricks if they win, and act like they are upset that he other kid "stalled" or "I should have kicked his butt worse", or anything else to disrespect their opponent........

It isn't that hard to do the one thing that a MAN should do after a win, loss, or draw, and that is to stick your hand out to your opponent, and shake it with class.

My wife always gets mad at me when I gripe about hugging. I don't want you near me if you beat me. There is nothing sportsmanship about it. Not at the end of a match. Not everyone is going to agree with those who hate the idea of some dude that just beat you hugging you and that is ok, i guess. Let me shake your hand and be done with it.

That being said...Doug never hugged me. that is why i left Kansas.
