I think it is ok to recognize any kid who wrestles regardless of record. The number of wins one reaches in a career has many variables that can be outside of a wrestler's control. Each team gets 30 competition points but if the school is in a league many of those may be burned for a single match in a dual limiting the total number of matches a wrestler could get in a career. Theoretically, if a school used 28 points for 7 two day events and 2 points for duals a wrestler could get 72 matches in a single season. It is highly unlikely you will find events that achieve the 10 match count in two day events.

I would leave to each to decide what "success" means in their own terms. I am grateful for each and every wrestler who laces them up! You can't have wins if you don't have anyone to wrestle!

I would bet that those 25-25 records are underclassmen, that each year of progression take 5-10 off the loss column and add to the win column.

I do agree that if a kid can almost be half way there in one year. There will be some 44 wins for some kids. Very impressive with out a doubt but does the 100 mean that much to that kid...it shouldn't.

I look at Austin Cook, missed his entire Sophmore year and hit over 100 this year. That is worth talking about.

Few other things to look at if we are splitting hairs so to speak.

A 25-25 Jr or Sr did not go 25-25 for the first two years, I would bet it is quite the opposite.

Fresh/soph is middle weights, in theory a freshman starting above say 132/138 is going to see a mainstay of juniors and seniors. Lighter weight will be seeing alot less. Not discounting lighter weights but the facts are the facts. So does it carry more weight where the wins started at?

Strength of schedule also plays in, just for example is a 100 career season the same at STJ and Bluestem?? To some it may be but I know my opinion.

Again not calling anyone out just asking the questions.

It is kind of like the 4 timers that start at 103/6, although a great accomplishment it still doesn't IMO mean what some of the guy that started out in the middle weights and were 4 timers. Those are the impressive one again in my opinion.

I like the winning percentage idea. But what would be the #? 85%? 90%?

100 wins is a "Magic Number" for the young athlete that achieves it! Why pooh paw that?

I remember the day my 1977 Monte Carlo turned over 100K! I stopped in the middle of the street in Hastings, NE and ran around the car like a chinese fire drill. 100,000 was a big deal for that two toned blue monster!

Now my daughter has a 1995 honda civic that has 258K. Will it be as big a deal when it turns over 300K? It will be for my daughter! This is the best $500 car she has ever had!

Celebrate each milestone, Each step in the journey!

Right on target, backintheday!

I asked my son which match he will celebrate as a milestone. His answer: "The next one".

Every time a wrestler steps on the mat, win or lose, it could be his last time.

150 wins would be very impressive! Winning percentage would be good, but you still would have the runners, not showing losses when they ran from an opponent. No matter what you do, you'll have an impressive percentage when somebody was "sick" at certain tourneys or duals. Maybe you should think about an average number of matches for your team, compare individual wins, that percentage is what is posted for each kid, then show it for four varsity years.

As I already posted, Garrett went 103-60 (32 at 103, 25 at 120/113, 24 at 126 and 22 at 132).

His sophomore year he started 4-9 wrestling up a weight class at the start of the season (with losses to Dallas Vesta 2-9, Chandler Gordon by Fall, Isaac Dulgarian 10-25, Tyler Sharp 0-1, Cullen Hood 1-2, Clayton Himple 1-14, Kaleb Konitzer 0-4 and Willie Dieckman 2-9). He dropped to 113 and finished out the year winning 21 and losing 10 (with losses to Javier Vieyra 0-1 in 3OT, Garrett Whitson 0-2 in OT, Jacob Wilders 0-2, Marco Perez 1-2, PJ Chaney 1-9, Nick Haug x2 2-7 and 1-4, Alex Garcia 4-7 and Armond McCray 3-4).

My point is, his freshmen year he did have an easier schedule but he still wrestled solid competition and had some great wins against very good opponents. I know the competition he faced and I know how many close losses, and wins, he had against quality wrestlers. He was pinned 5 times in 163 matches with only one of those being by a wrestler he should have beat but he got caught.

I am sure that there are plenty of other wrestlers who barely got to 100 but were so close to getting to 125-130, or more. You have to know more about each wrestler than just the number of wins versus losses they had.

I wrestled high school in Oklahoma in the late 80's and early 90's, I started all 4 years and only wrestled 98 matches in my entire career. I qualified for 2 state tournaments and was fortunate enough to win one as a junior. I live in Arkansas now and our state hs tournament was this last weekend. There were freshman that ended the season with 60 wins, and a senior had 150..... falls out of 182 wins. A lot more matches these days, but 100, 125 or 150 if the competition is tough they are all great milestones. On a serious note, I do think that everyone should hug after each match, I know Beeson will love that !!
