This is one of my son's favorite tournaments every year. It's always ran extremely well and is a great environment! Can't wait!

This tournament is a joke! Just a money grab! My boy wrestled in it last year in a 5 man round robin and went 4-0. Then they tell us we have to come back and wrestle on Sunday for just one match against one of the kids he already BEAT in the round robin we wrestled in on Friday! They are just trying to get u back there to spend more money!!! I've never been part of a tournament where u win the round robin and then have u wrestle one of the kids u already beat again! It's just idiotic!

Jason1980, I believe they are wrestling straight through this year. What age and weight group was your son? Also, this tournament is just another local opportunity. I think Kendric Maple, Tyler Caldwell, Nathan Butler, - just to name a couple of Kansas wrestlers who went on and wrestled NCAA D-I wrestling after competing in this tournament. There have been numerous HS state champions and state placers from several states that have gone on to all levels of college and wrestled. It also allows the kids that are Junior Varsity on their high school teams to wrestle someone in their own grade/class. If someone is so good in this area and has no competition then they should travel to wherever and seek out some other challenges. I personally have been going to this tournament and coaching kids since its started in Nebraska - and it is my opinion that it is far from being a joke and a great opportunity for wrestlers. I am reading a quote off of my coffee cup this morning, "Life Isn't About Waiting For The Storm To Pass It's About Learning How To Dance In The Rain".

Other Past Wrestlers of this event
Henry Cejudo, Jake Varner, Robert Kokesh, Dom Bradley, Blake Stauffer

Brute Tournament 2007

a couple more notable names that wrestled at Brute - Alan Waters and Colt Rogers

Colt Rogers
School: Smith Center, KS

Rogers has become a legend in a town that has made a habit of growing legends. He is 108-3 after a 70-0 start in high school. Rogers is a three-time state champion. He was the 2007 Brute Nationals runner-up, losing in overtime to nationally-ranked Alan Waters of Missouri

Almost every tournament has something to complain about. Brute is far from perfect. But they do have some cool things. They run challenge matches with full tables and referees for those who were knocked out early and want to get some more action. They do a great job with the talent that shows up. They have a parade of champions, and finals matches with singlets for competitors to keep. Matching shirts for the coaches. And nice trophies / medals whatever with also "all american certificats or brackets"... They hit all the highlighs. They have an announcer, free clinic, run on track, and live streaming of matches. In a perfect world they would get the best of the best by age and grade show up. But, that doesnt happen. I think they had the OSU coach make an appearance and sign autographed free posters. They also donate money to REACHES. So I am not sure it is a pure "money" grab. My perspective... it is a great tournament to transition a kid from smaller tournaments to larger. A warm up for bigger tournaments like Salina, Liberty, Tulsa. It also depends on each kids bracket. Some are tough... some are not.

By "run on track" did you mean they stay on time? OR mean they use trackwrestling to run the tournament. Because they haven't use track wrestling to run the tournament in the past and they aren't planning to this year. But it is a good tournament.

You are correct they did not run it on "Trackwrestling". I made an error. They do seem to run on a tight schedule.

Does anyone know if you can park a camper in the parking lot at this event?
