For many years now the 4A coaches, specifically the few that belong to the KWCA, have been very sensitive about the 4A Rankings and the discussions that take place on this forum. 5A and 6A have it down... "Chief Renegade, will you be handling the rankings for us?" And, of course he does an OUTSTANDING job of compiling the FACTS and molding them into an educated prediction of how the state tournament might end up in each class and for the teams.

The 4A guys approach this like some sort of high stakes poker game. Sandbagging, old information, errors, etc. They could just take all 60 wrestlers and rank them #1 so no one would get their feelings hurt until they actually lose a couple of matches at regionals or get put on the back side at state. This would fit in well with the current philosophy of the great mediocrity machine known as "PUBLIC EDUCATION". Everyone can feel good until the third or fourth week of February! I digress...

The KWCA has been getting this wrong for years so maybe the 4A guys are coming around and focusing on COACHING instead of RANKINGS. Whenever they spend energy at their meetings the 25% of the KSHSAA coaches that belong get ALL wound up about who is ranking and who is approving them, blah blah blah What they should be doing is either renaming their organization the KWRA or focus on improving wrestling and building their membership so that at least HALF of the High School coaches in KS care enough to belong to the KWCA.

This organization could be really good for wrestling. I hope that Pat Kelly, the new president, is listened to by the 220 plus Kansas coaches and this organization can grow some legs and run with some KSHSAA changes. That should be their Christmas wish along with "Chief Renegade, could you PLEASE go ahead and publish the 4A rankings too?"
