The USA Wrestling Southern Plains Region is hosting the first Southern Plains Elementary Folkstyle Duals on March 4-5 in Tulsa.

Kansas will send two dual teams to compete. The cost will be $160 per wrestler. The fee will cover entry fee, transportation, and hotel. The team will be provided singlets, shorts and t-shirts. The singlets will be saved for subsequent Kansas teams. Our goal will be to put together the two best teams that we can to compete in this inagural event.

Because the weight classes are different than those used at our Elementary State and the event starts only a few days after our Elementary State we will not use that tournament to build these teams. The weight classes are 45, 50, 55, 60, 64, 68, 72, 76, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 140. The age range is K-6th grade.

If your wrestler is interested please send me a PM or post on this thread. Deadline for submission of names is February 4th. Once the names are submitted a group of coaches from all four districts will work together to pick the teams.

Is there an information sheet from the tournament somewhere? Ages or grade classes?

The information sheet is not out yet. The age range is listed above K-6th graders may participate. There will not be age divisions such as 6U/8U/10U/12U.

So, we are going to take possibly some of our best young wrestlers out of state on a date we have two large in-state tournaments trying to make a go of it? Sometimes we are our own worst enemies in this state.

I agree with sports fan. We are our own worst enemy.

I have to somewhat disagree with sportsfan. These two tournaments are well established and won't miss this small number of wrestlers. Why wouldn't the parents take their kids (if they can afford it). These types of tournaments where they meet new friends and wrestle for a team cause are a lot of fun. My son always talks about the Kansas elementary dual team. Hopefully he makes the middle school team. If my youngest boy was good enough we would go to Tulsa in a heartbeat. The boys love Incredible Pizza in Tulsa.

The dates they provided me were incorrect. The weigh-in will be the evening of Friday, March 4 and the kids will wrestle on Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6. We need bigger kids on our list 80 pounds and above.

Thanks,
Matt Treaster

Matt I received your inquiry and messaged you back a few minutes ago. Ethan Cunning will wrestle at 105.

Luke Barker from Ulysses would like to be considered for the 80 pound slot.

Cael Puderbaugh is interested in being considered for the 45 lbs. slot. He is only 7 yrs old, but I'm guessing there is not too many kids older that are still at 45 lbs.
