Overcoming adversity is one of the best aspects of wrestling.

The mental toughness required to overcome a first round loss and then wrestle on the backside is huge.
It is an everyday experience for wrestlers - You have to pick yourself up and battle again. Not only for yourself, but the backside wins can mean the difference in team championships!

There were several athletes that lost on the first round who came back to place 5th or 6th.
That is a great accomplishment! Congrats to you all!

There year I saw two who worked their way back to 4th place and 2 who placed 3rd after a first round loss. (if I missed someone - it was just old eyes and not intentional)

138 321A Bryce Shults from Marion overcame a first place loss by fall to place 4th. The wrestler who defeated Shults in the first round placed 6th

170 4A 4th Place Chance Rodriguez from Holcomb lost 3-1 in the first round to Bryce Arnberger from Cobly Who finished 1st
He battled all the way back beating Matt Tribolette from El Dorado in Cons Semis. Trobolette had beat Chance by major decision in the Semis at Rose Hill Regional.

5A - 132 (4th)Lane Glover (Goddard) lost first round to Liles from Great Bend 1-0
Working his way back he defeated Liles 6-4 in Cons. Semis
and lost in 3rd place match to Bendure from Mill Valley

Long way back to 3rd

321A 285 Charles TODD 30-5 from RV 3rd place
Champ 1 Lost to Landen Urban from Hoisington 6-5
He wrestled his way back beating two of the semi finalists
in Cons Semi won by fall over Kolvin Berry from Welk
3rd place match won by decision over Collyn Auker from Norton

Congrats!

The best story i see is 321A 126 lb David Hileman from Smith Center. There are so many could haves... or should have..

In the Beloit regional - top seeded Hileman lost to
4th seed Dalton Goans (Lyons) won by fall in the Semis.
This upset changed the bracket

This set up a first round match up with Tubbs from Wabaunsee who had lost in the finals to Gfeller from Rossville in the Rossville regional. Tough first round match for both and Tubbs won 6-2

But he overcame all of that and dominated on the backside:
Major, Fall, Fall, Major and Tech fall for 3rd place.

Smith Center should be proud!
