There was some good calls and some really bad calls for a kid to lose a championship match on a bad call is very frustrating. To see a kid get screwed on a bad call are the referee is to lazy to get down on the mat.or he don"t like the coach just screwing a kid over. For a kid to win state and don"t score a point to win a state championship on bad calls WOW.

I do not remember the last time I saw that many locked hands calls in a tournament. It was almost like 6U and they should have been getting warnings.

Here is a proposal...Refs have to be physically fit enough to make the highest weight class. Heck let's even give them a growth allowance so over 300lbs and you can't ref. It's a physical job and there were at least 6 refs at 5a/6a state that could not have met this requirement. It hurts their ability to ref if they can't get into position. Maybe good guys but should not be reffing. Just my opinion.

I was running a table at 5A/6A state. These refs were top notch. Didn't see very many coaches arguing calls. What the fans see is WAY different!! If it was a bad call, it's up to the coach to fight for his wrestler. Some wise a$$, once told me, don't leave it up to the ref, finish business on the mat. Words to live by.

There is a reason there are TWO officials on each mat during the state tournament, and the reason is to eliminate questionable calls. From what I watched as a spectator the refs did an outstanding job last weekend.

Two officials, some with a combined over 60 years of experience.... Very little room for these opinionated "bad calls" you are mentioning.

As for what Spexy said, I was brought up in a great group of coaches throughout my life who would never argue with the officials. Their view was "If you leave it close enough for a questionable call to make the difference, then that's on you".

DONT LEAVE IT UP TO THE REFF!

Also, KHSAA is open to anyone at the beginning of every season to register, and become a certified official smile

2nd on the good old boy system. I did not see 5A /6A, I did see 321A. It was A joke. The club refs where better. The two refs to a mat are a wast of cash. There are good refs and there are bad refs.I was totally disapionted at state. I expected the refs to be top notch.
The coaches dont fight because they know there is no way there will be any changes in a match. It is said that HS is this way.

Officials for the state tournament are voted for by the Coaches, They do not just get randomly called.
As a 300lb man I strongly disagree with your 300lb rule.

I tried really hard. Honestly, I did. I kept looking at this and passing but no more!

1. There is nothing wrong with not being physically able to do the job. The problem is not admitting it! The guys we are talking about are not nimble!
2. The GOBS is blocking younger officials. There is no progression system. There is no rating system. The coach vote is a JOKE. AD's control them. There are so FEW officials getting assignments that they are the only one to get the votes. IT IS A STUPID SYSTEM!!
3. Improvements need to be put in place and a succession plan has to be developed.
4. Evaluations need to be happening!! Signing up, taking a test, and paying a few bucks doesn't make you a qualified official!!
5. Assignments need to be controlled by KSHSAA because AD's are lazy! Assigners are a part of the GOBS.
6. Just because you officiate in a tournament doesn't mean that you deserve to do a finals match. The best kids deserve the best officials for that weekend! The head official should be NOT be on the mat and should be evaluating and be available for disputed call resolution.
7. I hate that crap of "don't leave it up to the official". At the top level a match can be decided by one bad call! These guys are low level in the big scheme. Heck, NFL officials screw up!! MLB umps screw up! You find me a an official who won't admit that they have made a mistake and you have found me a liar.
8. These kids work their butts off and they get 4 chances at state. A loss can end a dream. Some of these officials have been screwing things up for 25 years but they get to keep coming back and making more mistakes. It is a terrible disservice to our kids.

It can be improved!!
