Beginning with the 2017-18 season, all coaches must be Safe Sport certified prior to obtaining a membership. This is a USA Wrestling requirement, complying with national guidelines applicable to all sports' national governing bodies. You will need your USA Wrestling membership number to link this certification to your membership. The course and accompanying exam takes a minimum of 1½ hours.

You can report a possible Safe Sport violation from the USA Wrestling membership website at https://www.usawmembership.com. The USA Wrestling Safe Sport policy can be found at http://content.themat.com/AbuseandHarassmentPolicy.pdf.

UPDATE

You can now complete your Safe Sport certification (and background check, if needed) from within the USA Wrestling membership system. Go to https://www.usawmembership.com/login and create or log into your account. Select your profile, then click on your name or on the "SS Cert" button in your profile to start the Safe Sport certification.

Mike, are these the same requirements that are mandated by KSHSAA for high school coaches? In other words will the courses high school coaches have to take yearly suffice this requirement?

No, this is different than what high school coaches have. All high school coaches must go through this program before obtaining a USAW coach's card, same as everyone else.

Are clubs responsible for completion verification like background check?

Annual or 1 time deal?

Clubs will need to verify that coaches have completed the Safe Sport certification before submitting them for membership, similar to the background check requirement. You can print out a certificate after you complete the certification; I would suggest that clubs require that certificate from their coaches before they submit them.

The certification is currently a one-time deal, although we are at the mercy of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, which could add a refresher course at some point in the future. Also, there are two bills currently under consideration by the U.S. Congress that might impose additional requirements (one of the bills has already been passed by the House).

Can you start and stop this course or does it all have to be taken at once? Same with test does it all have to be taken at once?

Thank you.

You can start and stop. You have to take several quizzes in the training. The final test takes about 2 minutes to do.

I just completed this. It took about 2 hours, with a few small breaks. It's a good course with some important information in it. Several quizzes throughout and a final test at the end, so be sure to pay attention to the vids. Not that difficult, most questions are common sense, but some you have to remember details from the videos.

QUESTION : Are Coaches still able to take Safe Sport and begin process for a Coaches Card? (rumors are flying around that the last day to take SS was 1/15/2018?)
