I posted this video of a cheap trick that was used in MN HS Sections.
I would like to have an honest debate. This is the only forum I have seen that has seen some discussion on this.

Cheap Trick

How can we improve the rules around the use of inhalers like all other rules for skin checks and uniforms. For Example:
1. Why is the coach allowed to determine that he should act on behalf of the wrestler - is there a waiver on file? If that was my son's coach you better believe I would be all over this.
2. Why isn't the inhaler being checked in with the ref \ head table prior to the match and made sure it is located next to the mat?
3. Why is there not a medical form being checked in at weigh in times?
4. Why doesn't anyone validate the prescription and name on it.
5. What happens if they had not found the inhaler after all it wasn't in the bag and they used even more time to search for it.
I just want to expose this for what it is. This is why wrestling is having a hard time surviving because of all the tricks and unethical decisions. Does this happen a lot? College Wrestling? What about EpiPens and seizures? Is that being treated the same way?
Please help me understand this is the first time I had seen this happen.

The NFHS rules book covers the Code Of Ethics of coaches. Specifically it states.

"The coach shall not seek an advantage by circumvention of the spirit or letter of the rules."

As it pertains to the use of such devices. Each competitor is allowed up to two injury time-outs per match. How they do so is at their discretion.

By and large officials are not doctors, and even the ones that are aren't in the business of diagnosing or making a medical determination on the spot in a wrestling event. You can't even begin to understand the liability risk an official would place onto themselves by denying a competitors request for an injury time-out whether it's legitimate or not.

There is absolutely no need to have this discussion at all. If a kid or his coach wants an injury time out it must be granted. The reasons for such a request are irrelevant. It is not a rabbit hole you really want to go down.

Thank you wrestleback for your quote. I looked it up and this gives me some solace.

Code of Ethics

I am not denying any injury. I am asking for transparency. No where in my post do a suggest denying anything. I do understand the liability and would not be surprised if a coach gets sued too.

Not in the high school division yet, but I watched a state placer at 8 and under take injury time in two big tournaments last season. If his match would go to the 3rd, he would ask for timeout and go to his coach and get a few drinks of Gatorade and catch his breath. That's it. Just a drink and some time to rest.
