Why doesn’t KSHSAA have the Substate brackets up yet? Did they have to be at a tournament until midnight yesterday and then get home at 3 am? I realize I can look at the regionals and figure it out, but shouldn’t have to.

So much for KSHSAA and their 1 day tournament, Wakeeney Regional became a "2 Day" event by finishing after midnight last Friday. Talked to some of those officials yesterday that worked the tournament and they did receive an apology call from the head of Kshsaa wrestling for having to go that long. They told them that they will have to do something different next time. So will Kshssa compensate them for the "extra time" of leave it at the $217 they got for the day? Maybe they should just own up that the way this all was set up was not in the best interest of all involved and maybe get the KWCA and other Wrestling smart people input into all of it.
And Kshsaa should have known that there would be more matches at this event than last week. Thus a longer day. And why not move the start time up? They did at other qualifying tournaments out East.

We were told unless there was inclement weather we were to start at 3 and run it on 2 mats. We only took 2 breaks totaling 20 minutes. There were less than 80 pins in the tournament. KSHSAA did not confer with any coaches on their thoughts. All of us could of told them that in western kansas an 8 man bracket will take more than 5 hours to run. KSHSAA will continue fo fail us until they start communicating with us.

I was wondering why only 2 mats- esp with a tournament starting at 3 pm. Does anyone have an explanation for that one?

Some tournaments were allowed to use 3 mats for preliminary rounds. I wonder if it had to do with not enough TW clocks to supply all tournaments if they all used 3 mats?

From my understanding, the main two points of the 2 mats was avoiding excessive down time to meet the 45 minute rule and to maximizing bleacher space to allow for social distancing with spectators. Many locations have to reduce bleacher space to allow for safely putting down 3 mats.

Also, I question if there would have been enough officials to run 3 mats at all tournaments.

I know our letter from KSHSAA to host schools said that ONLY three officials would be assigned to each site. So yes, three were available at each site but that was it.

KSHSAA buried an apology to schools that attended their poorly designed regionals in their weekly announcements and said they would fix it in the future. Then proceeded to still have girls’ sub-states start at 3 pm tomorrow. I guess the future is not now! Seems like KSHSAA is “sorry, not sorry” in this situation.

The problem in my opinion was not how long the regionals took. The problem was the start time!
