Potential Match of the tournament
At 138lbs we have a battle of 2 very talented seniors. Stevie Barnes (Underwood) vs Grayson Sonntag (Tonganoxie). This match happened 2 years ago in the finals of this tournament with Barnes coming away with the victory. Both wrestlers have made great strides in their careers since then. Iowa’s Barnes is a 3x state medalist, twice as a runner-up, as well as a Fargo Greco All-American. Sonntag, who is committed to wrestle at Central Michigan is also a 3x state medalist and a State Champion, as well as a Folkstyle Nationals runner-up. This should be a great match!
Team Race Preview:
Underwood is the favorite to win the tournament. Underwood fields a very solid lineup with a murderers row from 120-145 and they were co-champs of this tournament in 2020, tying for the team title with STA. Saint Thomas Aquinas has been top 3 at this tournament 3 years in a row, 2nd in 2019, 1st in 2020 - tied with Underwood. 1st in 2021 in the dual format. Tonganoxie has a good squad and will also be in contention for a top 3 spot this year. Mill Valley and Abilene are also contenders for a top 3 spot.
