Anyone know or have an idea where the cut line for 4a and 321a will fall?

KSHSAA site says that 323 was the lowest 4A (Scott Community & Concordia); 322 & below was 3A (Iola & Topeka-Hayden).

Wrestling is a Quasi-Team Sport, so it is classified differently.

6A has the top 36 wrestling schools in classification.
5A has the next 36 wrestling schools in classification.
4A has 40% of the remaining wrestling schools in classification.
3-1A has the remaining wrestling schools in classification.

They are not determined yet, as the number of wrestling schools has not been determined.

The following is the tail end of the 2023 4A State Championship results.

Only 6 teams (highlighted in red) in the bottom 25 are actually in the 4A classification for other sports and most of those are really small 4A schools. The rest of the teams in the bottom 25 are all 3A teams that get bumped up to 4A for wrestling.

Only two teams (Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail, and Colby) that are classified as 3A schools but have to wrestle in the 4A classification finished higher than the bottom 30 schools in 4A tournament.

SIZE MATTERS! laugh

PLACE CLASS TEAM
31 3A Hugoton
32 3A Columbus
33 3A Frontenac
33 3A Holcomb

I have been out of the game for a few years - I thought only Football was classified differently.

Right now I have 146 programs from 4A-1A. I have not counted Doniphan West, and McLouth, in these figures. They all had programs last year but numbers were low at regionals so until I see something on Track I will not put them in my calculations. Wichita Trinity is another school that has had a program in the past but their numbers have always been small and I don't see them listed on track, no coach is listed on KSHSAA school directory and no wrestling schedule is listed on the school site. Tribune is another school that had a program last year but I don't see listed on track as well. Co-ops have always been used in determining classifications in the past so I used them in my numbers. I am sure I am missing some co-ops but I only used co-ops that I saw rosters listed on track (some you just have to know names as they are listed under the school they are co-oping with for example Cherokee-SE kid is listed under Columbus and Pleasanton is listed under Jayhawk-Linn). Right now I have 58 schools in 4A and that would put Halstead as team 58 but if Trinity has a team then Wellsville would be team 58. Typically if you look at years past there are 59-60 schools in 4A. We would need to get to 150 teams in 4A-1A for that to happen. If there are 150 teams then the 60th team in 4A would be Chaparral again if Trinity does not have a program if Trinity does then the 60th team would be Cheney with Chaparral going 3A. I don't have any inside information I am just looking at what is entered for rosters on track and using my fingers and toes to count.

Schools I know that are co-oping :
Allen-Northern Heights
Bennington
Bird City
Downs -Lakeside
Longton-Elk Valley
Mankato-Rock Hills
Medicine Lodge
Pleasanton
Quinter
Sedgwick
Topeka Cair-Paravel

New Programs added for this year:
Johnson-Stanton County
Oxford

I guess 4A is lucky that Hoxie wasn't in your classification! They would have been a small school that would have easily won 4A. I am only saying this as you make it sound like smaller schools don't have a chance in 4a.

The numbers don' lie! Hoxie is AMAZING and would have ran with anyone in the state. They are definitely an exception. I just don't understand why we change classifications just for wrestling. Most people (unless from western KS) will agree that 3A in general is not as strong as the bigger schools. Keep the other 3A schools where they are at instead of bumping them up. This is not intended to be a Slam against 3A or below schools schools, it's just a fact that it's harder to pull from 30 kids compared to 1,000 kids in a class. With that being said, it amazes me how many stud athletes come from those smaller schools
