my votes would go to 5A 152 semifinal between anderson and bailes. anderson won 6-4 in OT, but both wrestlers were aggressive and wrestled very well. the final of that bracket featured loos and anderson with anderson winning by 1, it was a great match as well. another great match was 6A 160 final between Kellerman and failery with kellerman winning 5-4. any others worthy of discussion?

I think best finals weight across the board was 215, all of those matches came down to final seconds and were very emotional as for getting crowds involved.

Across the board I would agree with 215 but for my money the best overall match was Erisman and Zahm and 152. Great action the whole way through and a last second surprise ending.

Just a small correction. Kirk Fairley not Failery wrestles for Derby and did a great job in the 160 6A finals. We'll see him again.

I think the 4a 215 championship match was a good one with Lucas Fox-Scott City and Jacob Marrs-Clay Center with fox winning in the final 2 seconds 10-9 i think

Dexter Deeds had a great match with Peterson, even though the last call by the official was flaky. Elliot winning in the finals against Peterson was also a good match. Once again the official make a quick call in the final seconds, making Elliot Champion. Not taking anything away from Elliot but the call was rather fast on the takedown. If anyone saw it different please correct me.

How long does it take to be awarded a takedown?

Elliott secured the takedown and had control. What else must you do to be awarded a takedown?

The championship match at 4A 152# between Nick Zahm and Neil Erisman was classic. It was the best wrestled and most compelling match of the tourney.

I've been wanting to comment on the 135 lb. match. I also saw it in the same eye as the Ullyses kid. Peterson had spun around behind Elliott while his hands were still touching the match (takedown-3 supporting points) and then Elliott reversed Peterson as Peterson's hands were also touching the ground (reversal-three supporting points). The score should have been 3-3 or the ref should have awarded no points as no one wrestler had secured the takedown on the mat long enough to maintain complete control. I feel this match should have went into overtime, but that's just me.

6A -112 Perez vs. Shumate.

Both kids are ranked in the top 10 nationally. After the 2nd period, the score was tied. Less than a minute to go, Perez secures a takedown and wins the match.

The biggest reason was they both went after each other pretty hard. There was no "wrestling the edge" and any time they went to the edge, both worked their way back to the center. They weren't going to let the edge be the deciding factor of the match.

It was also their second battle in the state championship match, their third battle this year alone - each had a win over their opponent. The third match was the bubble match and was in the finals.

There were other matches that had interesting bio's, but this one was the best.

And they both come back next year - yikes.

4a 152 all the way. Although, 4a 125 was great as well. Bloodgood gave Dawson a great match!

The Erisman-Zahm has my vote. Both athletes gave it there all. I was wondering if they met at the Basehor-Linwood Tourny?

The Erisman-Zahm match was the best match of the tourney, although there were some other great matches. Neil definatly flaked out in the last 6 seconds and Nick was on the top of his game. They were like two great gladiators battling in the Coliseum! Oh yeah, they were two great gladiators battling in the Coliseum! Duh! I'd love to see a rematch or two between them. Saturday was Zahm's day, and he deserves every kudo, but I'm not sure, in a couple of rematches, you would be able to guarantee the same turnout. What fun it was as a spectator though!

All of the matches mentioned were enjoyable, combative and entertaining. I was equally impressed with the number of young men who continued to wrestle after sustaining an injury. For fear of not recognizing all of the wrestlers, I sat near the 5A mats and saw Espinosa of Ottawa, McGrew of AC and Edgmon of Goddard give it their all with noticeable injuries. Sadly, had to see Johansen of Mill Valley leave the arena on a stretcher, thus ending a great high school career. Looking around, I saw wrestlers trying to wrestle with one arm, ones limping back to the center circle, great warriors leaving it all on the mat. Those are the best matches to this person.
