We are trying to figure out what the state record might be for consecutive dual victories.

Anybody have any insight here.

Didn't Emporia go about 100 or so dual wins in the 1990's. And how about Ark City? Did they go about ten years or so without a loss.

Also, what are the longest CURRENT dual win streaks. Bishop Carroll currently is riding a 65-dual streak dating back to 2001.

Any help here?

Manhattan has 51 consecutive dual wins, we have a dual-tournament in Ottawa this saturday and a dual against Clay Center later in the season still.

With the increase in the amount of dual tournaments both offered and attened in the last couple of years, I think this has the affect of degrading the significance of dual win streaks. The reason I say this... I've officiated one of these varsity dual tournaments already this year, and there was 1 really good team there, a couple of decent teams, and then about 7 terrible teams, 2 of which were combination teams of jv wrestlers from several of the varisty attending schools. Basically what this means to me is schools are getting 3 and 4 "Dual" wins in a day that really aren't even quality wins. Not only that but you can rack up 25 or more duals in one season now, and out of those 25 you may only face 5 teams that have full rosters or are quality teams.

In the past the NCKL was basically dominated by Abilene for about 7 years and racked up somewhere around a 55 dual win streak, which included no dual tournaments. This was at a time when Clay Center, Concordia, and even Chapman were sending 8,9,10+ wrestlers to state every year and finishing team wise in the top 6.

While I know this is not the case, I would state two statistics. 1 for consecutive duals outside of dual tournaments, and 1 that includes dual tournaments. Just my thoughts.

Chapman might have qualified 8 one time. I don't even recall them finishing top 10 in the last 10 years, but I might be wrong. 2000 or 2001 would most likely have been when they would have.

Perhaps Nigel was trying to make the following points:

1. More duals are wrestled nowadays than in the past due to the proliferation of dual tournaments; and,

2. With more duals are being wrestled, more less full teams are therefore encountered, which leads to some "easy" victories.

These two factors could then be considered to be "padding" of consecutive win streaks which contributes to diminishment of the significance of dual win streaks.

Just guessing, though.

According to the 2001 Kansas Hall of Fame sports record book the following teams were listed for consecutive dual meet victories.

123 Kapaun years not available
*115 Emporia 1964-1978
61 Concordia 1986-1992
53 Arkansas City NA
* includes ties

This would be up to the year 2001, obviously there could be some changes. I know Beloit had 100+ wins during their heyday, but I don't believe it was enough to be #1. As to the comments of teams wrestling more duals than they used to, doesn't that apply to all records, since wrestlers get 40+ matches now as opposed to 20 in the 70's and 30 in the 80's and early 90's. Matches were very limited until we went to the 30 point system. As long as I can remember a win is a win and a loss is a loss.

61 in a row for Concordia...they have an unfair good coaching advantage don't they Coach Moore?

IFeelFat, you are THE example of exactly the kind of people and posts that the admins would prefer to not have on here. Im glad that you have nothing intelligent to add to this conversation.

Back on subject. Egg was correct in his summary of my comments. And Coach Moore made a good point as well, and that is certainly another way to look at it. My main comment suggests that these long streaks of duals are not as significant as they once were, but that is only my own personal oppinion.

P.S Aaron I definatly know that Chapman hadn't placed in the 10 in a a long while but they did take quite a few kids to state back in my high school days, which is why I mentioned them

Manhattan's streak is now 56.

It would take Manhattan a long time to put together a string of dual wins if their one dual tournament of the year wasn't included. They only have 3 other duals a year (and one last year was snowed out).
