A kid who wants to go to highschool nationals has no source of funds. He was told that he cannot recieve donations from teachers of his school. I'm going to pay half his entry and find sponsorship for the other half so the kids going thats not the point. I'm wondering what kind of a system do we have in place here where a kid of no resources and not much know how on fundraising cant approach teachers some who I know would be MORE than happy to donate $5 here or maybe 10. What are the rules here or is it just out school distric 259 or is this a state wide rule?

Mike,

My son is going, I have gotten sponsorship donations from the local recreation center, friends, family and have also contacted a few local businesses in the area that I have frequented thru the years. I have also contacted the booster club, lions club. I have so far been very successful at this. If you want to give me a call email me and I will give you my phone number to give you more pointers on how to get this accomplished. My email address is dtbailes@aol.com.

Thanks,

Tracey

I hate to say this, but every year there are kids that don't go because of finances, and kids that have their way paid by their districts which is probably against KSHSAA guidelines. To say that a teacher can't donate is a little strange, in my opinion. Does your district have a policy regarding requesting donations from teachers? If they do, that makes sense. During every single school fundraiser, teachers will be swarmed with requests to donate, buy, or give time.

Dad,

Teachers can donate... the kids just has to go to the teacher on his own and the coach involved can't have money sent his way by any means.

It must be kid driven! Not coach driven!

In Saint Francis we have had hamburger feeds and other fund raisers to help pay for wrestlers to attend Highschool Nationals. It has always work well and most of the trip was paid for. May not work in a larger place like Wichita, but here the wrestling club sponsors the fund raisers.

Do a car wash or something of that nature. I'm also wondering why besides finances we never have a wildcard..is that an applied for deal?

Coach Church,

Last year I was in charge and found donations for our wrestlers, I dont know if there is a rule or law against coaches receiving the donations of not. I know that I have asked Rick Bowndens office and they said there was not anything saying they cant. Now there is a rule on receiving Items when the place at the tournament itself. I am not a high school coach but I have been coaching for along time and I do alot of fundraising and request for donations and sponsors.

It would seem to me that being a senior and having used up their high school eligibilty they would not fall under KSHSAA rules or guidelines.
