Be a part of Baker University athletic history by attending its first ever collegiate wrestling event this Saturday night 11/07/09 at 7PM. Baker will go against York College. The event will be at Baldwin City Junior High School.

We do not have many college wrestling programs in the State of Kansas and this is the only one in this part of Kansas. We have been waiting for a long time for college wrestling in this part of the state, so show the administration at Baker University how much we appreciate their decision to add a college wrestling program by attending this first event this Saturday night and the tournament the next day. If you can't make it Saturday come the next day to the tournament.

We can really make a statement for college wrestling in Kansas by packing the house for both events this weekend. It is very exciting and you want to be part of it!

When my son was wrestling in the Kansas Kids season, I never had been to any dual matches. I believe one of the first ones that I went to was the KC Metro Classic. This is annual Missouri vs. Kansas event of the high school senior wrestling all stars in the Kansas City metropolitan area (I believe wrestlers are eligible within about a 60 to 100 miles radius of KC). It is well attended event that gets a lot of local spectators from both Kansas and Missouri. It is actually one of the biggest and most vocal and spirited events that the wrestlers ever wrestle in during their high school careers.

Of course the York College vs. Baker University matchup tonight does not at that point have the natural rivalry aspects that a Kansas vs. Missouri matchup like the Metro Classic has. But I do think there is going to be a large and charged crowd for this historic wrestling event since it is the first time there will be a competitive college wrestling event in Baker University's 151 year history. I think this would be a great opportunity to bring your young wrestlers who could become our high school and college stars of the future to an exciting well attended wrestling event. They could have the opportunity to see college wrestling in a very special setting that it deserves in our State.

If you have a chance please come to the dual tonight and watch our young Baker Wildcats make history by battling York College in a exciting wrestling format, a dual competition between teams.
