If that's all there was, yes it's enough. But he has other losses that have lowered his ranking. It's similar to Tyler Henness beating your son. I still have him ranked higher due to his body of work. When Kmiec pinned Bo last year and then Bo majored him at state, how would you rank them?

4. Boomer Mayes - 12 - EUD - 4A - 25-3

His last name is spelled "Mays." Some feel it's disrespectful to call them by or continually spell their name wrong.

"If any of you call me Francis......I'll kill you!".

"Ok.... Francis!"

Is Bean (215 lbs) from KMC eligible to wrestle? I am assuming the Oklahoma HS Athletic Association released him?

Your Rankings
1. Wichita Heights - 6A
2. Goddard - 6A
3. Andale - 4A
4. Derby - 6A
5. Andover Central - 5A
6. Lansing - 5A y
7. Clay Center - 4A
8. Garden City - 6A
9. Norton - 321A
10. St. James Academy - 4A

How do you do your team rankings? Only 2 teams on your list beat Norton at TOC which is Clay Center and Derby. Heights, and G.C. both had the opportunity to prove who was a better team at TOC, and both failed.. Give credit where its due and move them up, likewise Wichita Heights is overrated. You have to finish a tournament to help your team even when you lose in the semis.

You have to look at the team's ability to score points if ALL teams were there. One team may have a kid that wins the TOC, which happened to be a weight class that didn't have 7 other kids from across the state in it, that could all beat your kid. I think Chief puts a lot more effort into it than he is getting credit for. See what I am trying to say? Just using TOC as an example. And you see it all the time, you look at the results of your kid's weight class at the Joe Blow Invitational, and say "I could have walked thru that bracket". Might be true, but the AC rankings are based on everyone being there. Until we have Grand State, this is the best we can do is speculate.

As far as your comment on finishing even after being beat in the semis, I don't believe that option was available.....

If you go back to one of Chief's old posts from way back when, he pretty clearly explained how his All Class ranking system worked, but my above explanation is the short version.

Not sure what the secret formula is either.

Heights has 4 ranked wrestlers

Lansing has 5

The individual class rankings are more regimented in the scoring system. Points are awarded for ranked wrestlers and additional points are given to non-placers who will score team points in a state tournament scenario. In an All-Class team ranking, there is more subjectivity due to the lack of a pier level comparison. The dynamics change dramatically when a team is not at full strength or a team from out of state is added to the tournament. At Newton, key brackets had Union wrestlers eliminate potential scoring members of our top ranked teams. A good example is to compare why Heights beat Derby, Goddard and Garden City at the Derby tournament and then placed so low at Newton. Injuries, a DQ and the way the seeds fell had a huge impact. Many tournaments give you good team criteria, others don't. In the end, I continue to work towards providing the most objective rankings that I can. I have no reason to favor a certain team over another. The often thrown out claim of a big school bias is ludicrous. If Norton went to Eudora, Derby or the Bobcat, it would provide more criteria. My son wrestled at SM East. I pull for them in every match. You will find that I have never ranked one of them above a reasonable position that is not backed up by criteria.

Not sure if this comment was needed. Coach Church has worked hard to get his team where it is today. He is a phenomenal coach. I believe Chase Nelson started wrestling I think in either his 8th grade year or his freshman year and now he's one of the top tier college wrestlers in the country and wrestled under Coach Church. Not to mention Kendrick Maples who's a division 1 wrestler as well and Daniel Deshazer who will be a Sooner next year. And there will be more to come. Every team has their set backs and so do the wrestlers.

Wichita Heights got beat by 10 teams at toc, can anyone explain why they are still ranked 1st?

Read Chief's post, and you'll see the reason.

This world is so full of people that are so vain and jealous. Whether we can afford it or not, we buy that fancy new car. Whether we earned it or not, we want to be ranked higher than someone else. And if someone is ranked above us,we try to tear them down, rather than bringing your level up to them.

I'll keep driving my cars with 150,000 miles on them, and will continue to not worry about what other people think my kid or team is ranked. On Feb 25th and 26th, we will get exactly what we earn. I recommend you all do the same.

Friendly chat, offering criteria, etc., is fine, but these attacks on Chief, Heights, or whomever, are getting old.

it's not an attack its a disagreement between two people. You can have your opinion as well. I' not attacking any coaches or teams just stating some facts. I ask an honest question, and all I want is an honest answer. It don't have to be politically correct, or even correct for that matter, just want to know how or why.
