Thanks Chief. We appreciate all of your hard (and free) work also. Keep it up. But I never like to hear about any injuries to any wrestlers. I really hope it is nothing serious.

Chief,I hate to say it , but you were correct about Ethan Mumaw. He was unable to get over his knee injury, he tried but it didn't work out. He is done for the year. I was really hoping for big things from him, he had all the talent to go far in this sport. What one mistake lifting weights can do to a great athlete. Might as well pull him, and let someone else deserving take his spot.

Sorry, guess you already did that.

That's too bad. Mumaw was a beast.

We will also miss him for the Kansas v. Missouri Metro Classic. Would have been a great addition to the team. We would really like to win this year.

We are closing in on the final All-Class ranking. I will continue to update them all the way through the state tournaments with a possible update after the Big/Small dual.

At that time fourteen All-Class Team t-shirts will be printed. These are exclusive shirts that will only be awarded to each of the #1 ranked wrestlers. Due to KSHSAA rules, underclassmen will be required to pay for the shirt. In addition, Will Cokeley and I will start at the top of the rankings and invite wrestlers to participate in the Rocky Mountain Nationals dual team event on March 18th. We plan to form two full teams and will have the details and costs soon!

Is Senior Nationals a factor when considering who is the best at each weight class?

Jonathan Blackwell must be wrestling pretty well to be ranked twice at 135.

Chief,

At 140 how did you come to the conclusion of ranking Noel Torres of Emporia at the 10th spot? I see that he took 5th at Garden City and 7th at Newton.

For instance I see at Newton he lost to Trey Dice of Ark City and Jake Frondorf of Hutchinson. Dice ended up taking 5th while Frondorf did not place. Also placing above Torres in that bracket and absent from your rankings are 1st place Dustin Williams of Gardner Edgerton, 3rd place Billy Brockelman of Norton, 6th place Trey Schrimscher of Wichita Heights.

I just wanted a little clarity as to how you came to this conclusion.

Also wondering how Dylan Penka is number 2 at 171 now? Taylor Baird beat him at Junction 6-5.

Or........It could actually have been a typing mistake after I moved him up.

I'm putting a lot of weight on him beating Dustin Williams the last time they met, which was subsequent to those results you posted.

Penka is 1-1 vs. Baird this year. It was his only loss while the others have additional losses.

Chief and I have been going around on this issue on IM. I am of the opinion that Torres won a big match at home in a close dual. (like Kstate vs ku) But Williams has many more big wins. It will all come out in the wash!

Another question - where is Hinkley from LS?

Chief,

At 285:

How did you come to the conclusion of moving Josh Martinez of Marysville out of the rankings, but leaving two wrestlers in, John Denner of Hiawatha and Derek Holly of Shawnee Heights, he has previously beaten in the rankings?

I realize that Martinez lost to Joe Pomatto of Paola at Silver Lake, but Pomatto has a win over Broc Bennett of Pittsburg who remains 5th in your rankings despite not placing at the Bobcat Classic. Pamotto took 7th at Bobcat. Martinez also has a loss to top ranked Dillon Salmans of Hoxie.

Bennett did get good wins at Chanute over Tylor Woodruff of Goddard and Travis Anderson of Derby. With another win over Anderson at Derby.

However, his 8 losses that you have accounted for of kind stick out. I realize that he defaulted at Emporia, but that was only one match. He lost another two matches at Emporia, first to Will Geary of Topeka and then by fall to Taylor Krier of McPerson. Another three losses came at the hands of out of state competition at Gardner Edgerton, Tulsa Union, and the Bobcat Classic. He lost a 3-1 match to Woodruff at Derby. At Paola he took 3rd losing in the semifinals to Anderson.

Pamotto has lost several matches as well. With two losses to Cervantes of Oak Park, a loss to Anderson at Paola, a loss to Drew Bryant of Fort Scott, and he had a pair of injury defaults at Bonner Springs.

Now I'm going to switch gears, John Denner of Hiawatha at the 10th spot. I don't know if you are aware but Denner lost 2 to 1 in overtime to Rasmus Karlsson of Atchinson at the Atchinson Tournament. This should knock Denner out of your rankings as he has lost to Martinez at Marysville.

I don't know what you are going to do with all of the "he beat him, but he beat him" or "he lost to him and then beat him", but it just didn't seem right to have Martinez out of the rankings when he had beaten two of your top 10. Now that you know Denner has another loss you might consider reworking your rankings. If you move Martinez in the rankings, which is likely you probably can't not have Pamotto. My advice would be to do what you have done in similar situations have 11 ranked wrestlers with a tie at 10.

RB,

Your post kind of defines the traffic jam that is 285. One of the big factors in this class is how each wrestler has improved as the season has progressed. The default position that I've taken is to consider quality wins.

In 4A I was basically looking at a 3-way tie for the #3 spot in the rankings between Austin, Litherland, and Pomatto. So I looked at quality wins and Pomatto has two with his wins over Martinez and Bennet. He's also beaten Litherland and Austin in the regular season. Austin had no quality wins until this weekend. He lost to Denner and he didn't make weight for the second weigh-in at Eudora. He was supposed to wrestle Derek Holly at Holton but Derek Inj. Def. in the finals. Jesse took 6th at the BIT, was pinned by Pomatto and lost to the Clay Center heavy in pool play and then was pinned by the Andover Central Heavy in the placing match. Litherland and Pomatto were both in the same Bobcat bracket. Pomatto lost to the Mountain Range kid and to Bryant from Fort Scott and end up taking 7th. Litherland beat both those kids and took 3rd. The next week at Paola, Litherland took 4th losing to Pomatto and Bennet. Then at the BIT Litherland took third his only loss coming from Cervantes of Oakpark, and Pomatto took 2nd also only losing to Cervantes. Then the next week Pomatto beat Martinez.

Having said that, your point about the #10 position is a good one.

Clearly not All-Class rankable.

Might take a look at Tyler White 28-1 and defeated the #1 ranked wrestler at 285 for a regional championship and I believe his 100th career win.

There will be some changes this week - changes in each classification and the all classification.

Since Flannigan got moved to where he is based on his win over Baird (even with six losses), can i safely assume that Delancy will be moved ahead of him witha win over Baird (and only three losses, only one unredeemed against Penka)?
